This is a great basic snow profile kit accept for the farenheit thermometers which is pretty annoying.

A good collection of items. But I’ve since upgraded to a more powerful snow crystal magnifier, and also a digital thermometer. Note that the clinometer needle’s bubble will crack, but this has no detrimental effects (i.e., no liquid inside or anything like that).

The slope meter is incredibly useful. I don't use the thermometers very much, but it's fun to use the magnifier to check out the crystals. Lots of useful info on the cards.

This is a really nice tool to bring on ski tours. The slopemeter gets constant use, and the rest of the kit is good when I'm digging pits. There have been a couple of fatalities in Utah already this winter - everyone should be religiously evaluating the snowpack if they are in the backcountry.
