The Liberty Hazmat is a mid-fat freestyle/freeride performer, perfect for everyday use all over the mountain when it’s not dumping feet per hour. If going super-fat underfoot makes you feel like you should be skimming behind a powerboat, or you spend some of your season ripping Eastern resorts a new one, you will love the 94mm waist and smooth, bamboo-laminate flex of the Hazmat in nearly any situation. Likewise, if you ply the west and the West Coast exclusively, the Hazmat will be the plank you reach for when there’s anything less than a foot of fresh to play in. For the hippie in you, Liberty’s environmentally conscious approach to the industry means every ski they make has a fully-sustainable wood and bamboo core, and that the energy used to produce every pair is offset by wind power.
Write your question here... Looking at the Liberty Hazmat for my 14 year old son. He likes the park and is 5'8" 150 lbs and growing (shoe size 12). What size would you recommend (164-171?) and will a Look PX Team binding hold up?
I would say at the very least the 171. Seeing as there is not 176 or something around there, the 171 should then do it. 181 is too big unless he is an expert, aggressive style skier I think. The Teams should hold up pretty good, but you might want to look into an adult binding for him, at least in the near future. For now they should be good enough.
85% of the time (unless the pow is greater than 3 feet, then the huge pow skis get the nod) I rock my hazmats...Im 5'9" and 150lbs. Last year i rocked the 181s this year the 186s...they are amazing. Incredible versatility. I choose to center mount mine because i do enjoy riding switch 50% of the time. They do well in all conditions. For some reason, I can spin them switch better than any ski I have ridden before...even my park specific center mounted (Scott P3s (178cm) and Rossignol S3 (180cm)) skis...They also have the most unique flex...I wouldn't describe it as a stiff or a soft ski...the bamboo core puts the flex on the in between and is like no other ski I have ridden. Also, something I have not found to be true of other smaller companies (4frnt, ninthward, and Line<--who is now huge thanks to K2) The skis hold up. they dont de-laminate and break...they are durable. they do chip on the topsheet. I have given good reviews to other skis I ride and there are many great skis on the market, but it is my opinion this ski takes the top. Thanks Liberty!

Can anyone comment on a med-lighter weight Alpine binding? Im thinking look px15 but afraid its higher weight may offset the playfulness of the hazmats.
Also are folks skiing this "flat" ie minimal binding lift. I dont ski switch or park. thanks
The PX 15 is an awesome bindings, but pretty heavy. The SAS2 140 is a little lighter. The Jester and Griffon bindings are pretty light, and shouldn't affect the playfulness at all. These skis are pretty much flat mounting anyway, that how I rode them, and I'm not a huge park rat, just something I like to mess with. If you want a lifter, check out the PX designs with the lifter built in.
Got my Hazmat's last year and absolutely love 'em. They can go from the deep to crud, to hardpack with no effort, but best of all they're one of the lightest turning skis around of this size. Nice and stable underfoot with a slightly back from center mount - can be center mounted though, if that's your thing. I'm 5'9, 175lbs and opted for the 181 to build a little more speed/float.
Totally diggin' these more than the Volkl skis. The flex, and all around performance I just find better. As for bindings, the Look PX 12 or 15 are both good solid bindings, as well as the Rossi SAS2 120 or 140. The Marker Royal Family is defintely amazing, the Jester/Griffon.
ok. So i have done some looking around and i'm looking for a good all mountain twin. I'd say I ski 40/60 park to the rest. Im wondering if these skis are what i need. Ive also been looking at Volkl Bridges or Faction Wednesday
Ok, so I have been skiing for a while, and have tried a ton of products - I used to rent every time I went out.
The Liberty Hazmat is the best ski I have found for super fast skiing through pow, crud, and on groomers. It is wider than the average ski, but narrower than a powder ski, which is perfect.
I will probably buy one of these for my son as well - the core is great and makes it the most fun I have had. I read some great reviews about this ski, and I have to agree that it is the best thing out there for all mountain.
anyone know what the base material on these bad boys is??? and has anyone had trouble with bindings ripping out?? i just got through with a pair of ninthward first bloods and had the heel piece rip clean out. i'd like to avoid that in future purchases
These skis have P-Tex 200 bases, you can check that out on their website. As for the bindings ripping out, that usually isn't the skis fault, it only happens on poor mounting jobs. Take it to a good shop, and they should take care of you good.
Depends on your height weight and style, so... maybe. If you are pretty aggressive and a little smaller then it might work, or less aggressive and bigger then sure. Post your size and we could help better.
The flex and dimensions of the hazmat makes them just about the most versatile ski out there. Whether you ski park, groomers, trees, open bowls, or even bumps from time to time they're perfect. Super light and lively bamboo core that maintains it's camber and pop for years. It doesn't crap out right away like some wood cores do. Overall if you ski the entire mountain look no further... grab a pair of these sticks and I guarantee you'll love them.
Hey, I'm a 5'11", 180lb, east coast skiier. I'm in my 3rd year skiing, but i'm fairly aggressive - I'd say i ride 40/60 park to groomers/bumps. Also, I get out west a few times... went out to park city this season and possibly going out to lake tahoe next season. Should I go with a Hazmat or a Prophet 90? With the Hazmat, should i go 181 or 171? also, I found a pair of Line Anthems cheap and Dynastar Big Troubles cheap. how does the anthem hold up for an all mountain/sometimes powder ski, and how does the dynastar do on ice and in the park? thanks guys.
I bet you can get away with the 181 ski pretty easily, and it will be a really good all-mountains assault weapon. The pow should be no problem, with the 94 waist, and length, and park hits will be more stable with the width too. Personally, I wouldn't consider the others compared to this ski, the Prophets are narrower, the Invaders get chattery on ice, and dive in pow, and the Big Troubles don't seem to hold ice very well.
Anyone have any rec. on sizing for 6', 175lb. Wanted to get it for east coast softer days. thinking the 181...but tight trees get me thinking smaller..any thoughts appreciated
Definitely go with the 181. These skis actually measure a bit short, so the 181 is actually only 179cm long. They are very nimble as well, so the longer length won't be an issue.
I just got the 08 hazmats. I ski the whole mountain, very little park. How far from center should I get the bindings mounted? All the way back at the standard mark? 'cab forward'?
How are they with park? I ski up at the canyons usually sometimes hit up the bird so there I ride powder and well everything. Im just a little worried about messing them up in the park with the bamboo core and all.
They are pretty durable skis. Bamboo is actually a really strong wood so having that in a ski shouldn't make you worry about the ski's durability. Obviously your edges and base will get beat up if hitting rails on a consistent basis.
I'm thinking of getting a pair of these and mounting with tele bindings. How well do these hold an edge on early morning hardpack? Not that I'll get them for that purpose, just wondering since it's such a soft flex. Also, where can I find weights on these skis?
Hey Teleboz!I have a set of 181 Hazmat's mounted up with a set of Targa Ascents...and I love them! I live on the east coast, so unfortunately hard-pack is a reality of my day to day skiing...and they're awesome for it. At the same time, they're fat enough for those powder days!Weight is about 3 pounds, 3.5 pounds.
Hi, right now I am skiing on Line Mike Nick Pro models and have the Marker Baron Binding. I am live on the east coast and love to ski the trees and groomers. I am about 6ft 1, 16 years old and 165 lbs, i was wondering whether the line prophet 90 or the liberty hazmat would be a good ski for me
Rich,Both of those skis would be a great option, but I would go with the Liberty Hazmat over the Prophet 90. They're a little bit livelier due to the bamboo core, and not quite as heavy. They have a more fun ride overall.
I am shopping for my son...Christmas. He is 17 years old 5'11 and about 170 pounds. Currently riding Salomon 1080's and he rips the entire mountain, steeps, chutes, trees, bumps etc. We ski mostly in Washington and BC. What is your take on the Hazmat and bamboo laminate core.
The bambo core makes the hazmat lively, poppy and light. a fun versitil ski, liberty did have problems with duribility a few years ago, but have gotten it sorted out since then. Since you don't say what model 1080 he skis (gun, foil, thruster) it's hard to say if these are right for him. they are very versitil and can do it all, if you guys tend to ski more powder then not, i would go with a wider ski. 181 would be a good size for unless he really charges hard then go 186.
