Just in case the fat-ass dimensions don\222t satisfy your powder gluttony, the kids at Liberty gave the Double Helix an elongated tip and tail for a surfy feel and extra forgiveness in variable funk.

  • Light, nimble, Earth-friendly bamboo laminate core
  • Quadaxial fiberglass weave provides tons of torsional rigidity
  • 78 degree UHMW sidewalls sporting oversized HRC 48 edges carve up ice and laugh at lurking rocks
  • P-Tex 2000 bases help you beat the crowds to your favorite stash

Bottom Line: Double down.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

Yes, we finally got some 'der here in March and I got these puppies out. They float nicely and handle crud/groomers too. I've carried them in the backcountry as well. They are pretty light for a fatter ski, and they performed well in variable conditions there. Liberty makes quality, innovative gear.

Has anyone had any experience with the Double Helix as a telemark

Has anyone had any experience with the Double Helix as a telemark ski? I tried the HellBents last year with HammerHeads and they great but only in real soft powder. Looking for more of an all around ripper.

Thanks.

I am riding the Double Helix tele and absolutely love them! I use NTN and Scarpa TX Comps, and highly recommend this combo. I only have four days on the DH so far, and I haven't even gotten a great powder day with them yet, and I still love them. Sunday was a couple inches of soft snow on steep bumps, followed by soft groomers back to the base, and they rocked. Super fast turning in the steeps, awesome wherever I found a pocket of deeper snow, and stable yet quick on the groomer.

I'm really considering a pair of DH for tele. I'll mount 'em with Axl's, probably, since they're not too big (right?) for touring. If I don't get these, I'll be getting something similar, but I still want something huge for deep days. Maybe the genome.
My thoughts for alpine skis as telemark skis are this: Skis are skis. Modern boots and bindings have closed the gap now, and with telemark skiers entering alpine comps, that's all the proof you need, really. It's all a style preference, now. If the flex feels good, and you like the shape, go for 'em.
Good luck, pal. Enjoy!

I'm betting the Helix (rather than Double Helix) would be a better all around ski.

Liberty Double Helix or Surface New life? I can't decide.

Liberty Double Helix or Surface New life? I can't decide. Surface is lighter and has a better turn radius, but Liberty is made of a bamboo core which makes it more durable and has a repairable edge. What do you all think?

liberty is much better than surface as far as quality and durability go. plus, liberty has a 3-yr warranty on all their skis

I like the repairable edge. You never know what sort of stuff is hiding just below the surface.
