Better Than Expected

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I mean, I've owned many Mervin snowboards from Gnu and Lib Tech but I've never owned any clothing pieces from them. Suffice to say I was very impressed by the Brainstorm jacket when it arrived. It's even better than the overpriced Volcom Baldface jacket I ordered along with the Brainstorm.

A thing about sizing. From what I can tell this jacket fits a little longer in the length. For example, my medium Brainstorm feels like an extended medium (think of it as an anorak style). The tail feels a little longer. Despite this extension the armpit volume does feel a little restrictive; the armpit zippers they used are very wide and stiff and might be the contributing factor to the tight feeling.

The outer material is indeed very soft but I can't judge how well it waterproofs since I haven't been able to test it out in the real elements yet.

The only thing I don't like is that only a boring black colourway is available (I don't want to look like a tiny, disappearing rock on the slopes from far away). I wished they made more neutral colours like grey, navy, or dark forest green, etc. But having only all black, or super ugly, whacky yellow from Lib is not necessarily the most appealing. Lib, stop making ugly colour patterns and get a fresh loving with classic neutral colours.

All in all, this jacket ended up being superb in quality (much to my surprise). I got this on sale from Whiskey as well and I'm glad I did. Despite the boring all black colour I'm very glad I bought this.

Best Jacket I Have Ever Owned

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After much deliberation and very little info/reviews on the net I decided to take the plunge on this jacket.
Wasn't sure on the Storm Fit line fitment and asked Lib on their FB page and after ages they answered advising me that it might be a tad to slim for my 6'6" 245lbs frame.
I delayed my purchase in hopes of finding more info but alas, nada.
So a few weeks back I said screw it and bought it on Whiskey.
Arrived last week and man it is everything I would want in a technical jacket.
The exterior feels like a soft shell and it is super stretchy...REALLY stretchy so there is no way it would or could ever hinder movement.
The wrist gaiters do not come off like it claims here but the powder skirt does.
It does have a trim slimmer fit but not super slim and Lib Tech sure give loads of torso and sleeve length so you won't have to worry about looking like a Munster when reaching for your bindings or showing off 1/2 your ass crack when bent over.
I still have room to layer underneath NP.
Both the upper front pockets are also direct venting and it has the standard pit zips too however they made them go further down your side and about 5" over your pits and down the inside of your arm so you don't get that bulky zipper digging into your arm pits.
It has a nice tall face guard, which I dig, and wonder why more companies do not use a taller neck.
The hood is perfect and doesn't look or sit sloppy.
I have owned a ridiculous amount of jackets over the years from pretty much every company and I can say without a doubt that this jacket comes out on top!
Gore-Tex like waterproofness, the works.
Loved it so much I bought a second one on Whiskey for CHEAP as a backup once this one dies because if they aren't offered again I will be seriously bummed. :D

Just buy the damn jacket before they are gone!

How does the hood fit over a helmet?

Hey I am 6'6" 245 lbs...I cannot find any info on the "Storm Factory Fit" so no clue how this will fit on me.
Any ideas?
I know it is 11% spandex so it will stretch and I do dig a more ergonomic cut but I need room for layering.
Cheers guys

I've 6'5" and athletic build... or "lanky" where I come from. This is the first jacket (apart from Norrona) that is made for my tall frame that I have tried and FITS. Most jackets I've tried that are size XL (to get length in the arms) usually add too much material around the body so I end up skiing in a tent. This includes my Arc'Teryx sidewinder. I get a base layer or two, an insulated jacket or mid layer under this jacket and it fits well.

Snapped it up in TK Maxx clearance for 100... bargain.

I also like the extra length in the body for sitting on poma and t-bar lifts, or chairs that haven't had the snow/ice cleared yet.
