How could you think of going to Middle Earth without the Leki Carbonlite Aergon Antishock Trekking Poles? You’ll definitely need these lightweight telescoping poles to absorb shocks and help you tame the treacherous terrain on your journey. Fourteen ounces of carbon fiber don’t seem like much when you’re carrying a hobbit-sized pack on your back. Leki’s Super Locking System locks tighter and requires fewer turns than other poles, and ergonomic grips neutrally position your wrists for optimal swing efficiency and reduced fatigue.

Bottom Line: You can’t save mankind on your own.

Great poles.

I used these for quite a few hikes and they have been a life-saver in many situation's, they are extremely light and durable and can support alot of weight. Bad side are the twist-locks tend to over-tighten and strip, could have just been my poles. Also these tend to slide a bit when they get wet and you have to re-adjust.

Could I ski with these? I have a pair of these and I love them, but I would hate to break them because they aren't made for skiing (ie not meant for pole plants at high speeds).

You would also want different baskets that were wider so it prevented the poles from punching through the snow.

Greg,

The anti-shock system in this pole would probably not make for a great skiing experience, where you want a little more substance when you plant for a turn.

hope this helps

Awesome Poles

Simply put these are amamzing poles and worth the money. To elebroate a little bit, these are exceptionally light compared to ohter poles and it definitely makes a big difference on extended hikes. Additally if that back load is overlwhelming the poles can help bail you out by putting some weight like 3rd and 4th leg. Bottom line - light, strong, durable, perfect for trekking poles.

I'm trying to weigh the difference between this model of pole with, and without, the antishock system.

It will save me 20 bucks, but is it worth it?

I've read it works against you on uphill, and I am really fit and don't feel the need for shock absorbers.

I usually don't use the shocks and don't think it is really necessary.
They say it prevents some vibration and makes it nicer and soft and cushiony on your wrists.

I normal carbon fiber ones and I don't ever wish I had the "anti-shock" feature.
The Leki Carbon poles.
The carbon is very damping anyways. I use a carbon seat post on my hard tail mountain bike to reduce vibration and shock. Carbon works in the same way on the poles to absorb some shock.
