I arrived in South America a week ago and yesterday was my first big day. I climbed to the summit of my first two volcanoes and I also crossed over the 900,000 ft mark.

Today was another solo day of climbing in South America and I’m really starting to enjoy the different styles of mountains and approaches. Usually I am a north facing skier, however now I need to learn to become a south facing skier. Everything seems a little backwards, but it shouldn’t take too long to adjust and get back into my groove.

Another challenging obstacle while climbing has become the heat vents from the volcanoes. If one is not careful, it is easy to be touring along and drop through the snow.
