What do you call a boot that screams loud enough to kill? Well, if you're Lange, you call it the Super Banshee, and you give it just about everything from your bag of World Cup racing tricks except the blue paint scheme. Just like its top-predator predecessor the 2009 Banshee Pro, a few minor tweaks are all that separate this uber-freeride monster from its gate-bashing brethren.
World Cup veteran RL 11 shell design for ultimate power and control
New, denser lining foam structure delays pack-out
Elastic power strap prevents boot bang
Shock-absorbing toe box, boot board, and gel tongue pad for comfort
DIN-compatible Vibram sole inserts for hiking traction
I've skied these out for five weeks now; two doing serious backcountry skiing, two punting around on the pistes with the family and one race training. They really are an incredible pair of boots; stiff enough to charge hard and even race in (it's fairly recreational but still pretty serious) and yet comfortable enough to wear buckled up all day if you're used to stiff boots - I've even done a couple of short tours in them. It was a toss up between these or a race boot and I'm so glad I went with these. The cushioned tongue is brilliant for eliminating shin bang and the slightly elasticated power strap allows enough give to drop off things whilst keeping the overall response very stiff and reactive.
A really great boot, if anything I'd have liked them a little bit stiffer. Vibram soles are great on the ice as well! Very funny when you're with a load of guys in race boots and no cat tracks....

I enjoyed these boots at first, they were comfortable and seemed to ski well, however, the liners are poorly made and after a month and a half the foam in the liner shifted and developed an uncomfortable lump. I bought these on Pro-Form through Lange. They took two weeks to replace my defective liners, but they didn't replace them with this years liner, they used last years liner which is different. I talked to the warranty dept. and the Northwest Rep and was treated as a second rate customer! I guess the pros are of no concern to Lange even though I have numerous students that ask which ski boots they should buy. All I can say is that I can tell them which ski boot NOT to buy (lange). I am now awaiting a refund from Lange. Very poor company to do business with!!!! I gave them only one star due to the poor quality (made in China) and sub-standard warranty service. Take your money elsewhere!!!
Here's a newsflash, stock liners are awful. get some intuitions and be happy. I've had nothing but good experiences with Lange, and generally, if you bring the boot to a store or return to Backcountry.com, they will take care of the warranty issue for you.
Also, almost all gear is manufactured in China these days, it's simple economics.
Hi there, This is my favorite LANGE since the early 80 which I am still comfortably using, despite the little overhaul that has to be done last year. Have to admit though, the Super Banshee looks so great that I am ready to trade my numismatic boots for a pair of Banshee. All the best, Alex
I have been loving Lang's World Cup style boots for the last 10 years, but have since stopped racing and am looking for a more forgiving/comfortable boot without compromising edge control (east coast skier). I understand there will always be a performance compromise, but these boots (and more so the Banshee Pros) were recommended to me by a demo team friend, and I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar decision, or had some insight as to whether or not these boots would be a suitable substitute to the race shack style for all mountain very advanced skiing. It's a difficult decision for me, because I need something this year that isn't going to beat me up so much without a serious loss in performance. Been out of the market for a while, so any advice would help (ps I'm a Lange man only). Thanks
I think they will do it for you. Used to ski in Lange WCs modified to not bang up my feet while skiing= modified zeppa to absorb shock, added neoprene to the liner toe box and tongue to help suck up some of the shock- and a lot of grinding-
I switched to Kryptons for a few years as I thought they would be more of what I was looking for, but felt they were sloppy as opposed to my old Langes. I can't pin it down, but I felt they lacked responsiveness.
Got into a pair of Super Banshees and couldn't be happier. It is a race boot tweaked for all mountain skiing. Shock absorbing zeppa, padded tounge, better toe box and a little roomier= no modifications necessary and minimal boot work to make them fit.
Well made boot with lots of nice features. Great liner and power strap. I found them to run larger than my World Cup series from two seasons back, to the point that they won't work for me.
I've heard these boots run a little bigger than the old ones I have a pair of comp 120's in a 29.5 shell. There too small, should I go with a 30.5 or stay with 29.5.
More recent Lange models have a slightly taller instep and a roomier feeling toebox. It's a subtle difference, but helps to relieve the old Lange crush-your-feet feel. I used to have the Comp 120 in a 25.5 and I can stick with that same size in the newer Banshee models with less work needed on my shells. Since Backcountry.com has the 100% satisfaction guarantee, you can order a few sizes and return the ones that don't feel right.
Go up to the 30 maybe, but not a full size. They should fit kinda snug, since the liner will pack out. All the sole lengths are posted below too, so that might help you out.
