Settling is not in your vocabulary, so go with the Lamson Konic II Fly Reel when you need a lightweight, quality, durable reel that also won't clean out your bank account. The Konic II provides super-smooth performance when you hook a big trout on the Beaverhead or Gunnison.

  • Large arbor reel design enables the line to be stored in a shallow layer, provides high retrieve rate, eliminates line coil memory, and erases the risk of tippets breaking due to drag force gain
  • Machined materials and pressure-cast ALCS12 aluminum alloy spool and frame round out the Konic II's quality, durable components
  • An anodixed finish and a solid polyurethane coating enable the Konic II to resist gouging and abrasion
  • Drag system features a pair of precisely matched conical elements which are drawn together with spring tension to produce variable rates of smooth rotational braking
  • Centralized mass of the drag elements make the reel more responsive to light drag settings
  • Drag system has been completely sealed from moisture, salt, and grit for increased durability and longevity
  • Torrington zero-lash roller clutch relies on the locking effect of a number of ramps and rollers to achieve torque transmission
  • Zero-lash feature means instant engagement and improves feel and eliminates "spike" that the reel, line, and leader experience when a typical pawl clutch hooks up

Solid Reel. Good Value

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have a 6wt and enjoy using it. It's inexpensive and pretty durable so I am never worried when I set it down on some rocks to deal with my fish. The drag system is smooth but peice of advice... you don't want to take the reel apart and tinker with the interior components of the drag system. If you are just getting started or don't want to splash the cash on Sage etc.. I recommend this reel. It has served me well and I have no complaints at all. A bunch of my guide friends use this reel on their rigs for their clients too.

Good basic reel

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've got the 1.5 (4wt) version. It's just a basic reel with a drag that works well. Nothing flashy with the anodized finish, but it has held up well.

Update - Now that I've used it more, I've realized the drag is a lot tighter than it should/needs to be. On a 4wt rod, you don't really want much drag and this is close to being overkill.
