I absolutely LOVE this pad! Just like others have said, it's much too heavy for hiking but absolutely perfect for car camping. I think I may have slept better than I do at home and that NEVER happens for me when I'm camping. It's warm and cozy and I couldn't be happier. I got mine on SAC and they are the XL but I am actually quite happy it worked out that way. Get this!!

car camping made perfect

This pad rocks for car-camping! It's thick and your sleeping bag doesn't slip off it. I bought the XL and it's so wide and thick, all my friends have "pad" envy!!

Not made for hiking...perfect car camp pad or use it at home for a spare sleeping space!

Nice but Heavy

I agree with theskibum. We bought two of these. They are very cushy and keep you warm from the cold ground, but at almost 5lbs-6lbs., this bad boy is heavy if you are going up the altitude. Car camping, the pad is a 5 star. Hiking flat terrain, the pad is a 4 star. Hiking uphill the, pad is a 2 star.

Review Title

based on previous reviews, I waited for these to come available on S&C. I was Not disappointed. They arrived quickly & were exactly what I expected, if not a bit more. Wide, thick & comfy. Perfect for car-camping! Also good to have on-hand for unexpected sleep-over guests...

great for car camping

I would not take this baby hiking b/c it weighs lots, I bought it for my wife so we could car camp, it is like bringing a mattress along with you, big and comfy, overall it is good but expensive

is this mat self inflating?

is this mat self inflating?

Responded on

Yes. Still but needs about 4-6 blows before getting to max inflation, which seems about average for the extra thick self-inflating types

Quick review for dan

Just got a pair of these today for car camping. Easy to inflate even the first time out of the box. The top is a light fleece and mid-range slippery. Linking two or more together via velcro should be useful. Very comfy overall and the built-in pillow is nice. Weighs a ton so don't even think about backpacking (unless you can get someone to carry it for you). Compares well to the REI 2.5 which goes for $100. Not made of the most heavy duty material so durability might be an issue. Price to comfort ratio works for me.
