What is the difference between the Wildcat...

What is the difference between the Wildcat and Wildcat 2?

Responded on

I have both, and the differences are pretty minor. Color is the most obvious one; if you don't like the bright colors, the grey is more subdued. They added a tab on the back to help pull it on (which I like), the tongue stays in place without sliding sideways better than the last pair, and that's about it. The tread, stiffness, and fit are all the same.

Great shoe - do check workmanship

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently purchased a pair of La Sportiva #160 BK Wildcat trail running shoes European size 47 from Backcountry.com
Right out of the box, within an hour of wearing them, I saw that the top grommet had come apart. The shiny metal part that was on the inside just dangled on the shoe lace. I kept the shoes because I do not like to return/waste a good pair of shoes for a small defect. However, having to use Shoe Goo to try and repair the grommet on a new pair of La Sportiva shoes was not fun. I recommend these shoes, but please inspect them carefully. I have several other La Sportiva shoes and boots (mountaineering, rock climbing, indoor wall climbing, but this is the first defect I have noticed). La Sportiva means quality that the buyer can depend on.

The Best!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are great! Super comfortable and breath amazingly. They fit true to size, I am a 9 and the 42 is perfect. The tread is were these shoes really stand out. Super grippy, even in wet conditions, and they really excel on the down hill. Grab a pair you wont be disappointed, already on my third pair.

Tremendous shoes

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The best and most comfortable shoe I've ever owned, as well as one of the most durable and versatile. I've used them for trail running (anywhere from 4 miles to a 70 mile mountain ultra), backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, around town, in the garden, whatever. I have three pairs in various stages of decay, but still wear them virtually every day since I find them so comfortable.

not 100% sold on these

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

the fit is comfortable and the tread is good but the upper feels a bit flimsy compared with other pairs of la sportivas i've owned. hence my foot feels more wobbly than usual, which naturally affects my confidence moving fast on uneven downhill trails.

some of the best sport shoes I have ever had. My wife also has a pair and loves them - she is the reason I got mine. Great support, great traction, very comfortable.

Worked for Me

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I used 5 pairs of these on my 2668 mile PCT thru-hike. Overall I loved these shoes; I find them durable, comfortable and breathable.

Lifespan: first the stock insole wears out (~300mi) then the support becomes compressed (~450 mi) then the upper starts to wear through near the toes (~600 mi) then the sole gets worn out. Note I wore these with a ~30lb backpack.

I have a wide, high-volume foot. The toe box is roomy with a descent toe bumper, could be wider. I usually cut the fabric above the tongue because it became tight when my feet swell, but this is not a problem for most people.

I think the traction was sufficient but not aggressive.

I love the Wildcat 2.0 but the original Wildcats do not work for me so if you need more room than the Wildcats provide give these a try, they worked for me.

In the pic the right shoe has 700+ miles on it

AWESOME!!!

Love the way these fit. Lots of cushion. Width and size seem right on. I use them for trail running and working in, (I stand all day). Very good durability. This is my 3rd pair, and will buy more.
