What's better than a raptor? An ultra raptor!

When it comes to crushing trails, don't settle for just any old shoe. Make sure your feet are properly ensconced within the La Sportiva Men's Ultra Raptor GTX Running Shoe. When the trails are wet, the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort lining helps keep your feet dry. A mesh upper with abrasion-resistant microfiber gives excellent comfort and breathability for when the temperatures inevitably creep upward. You don't want to be worrying about slipping on roots and rocks along the way, so La Sportiva used Frixion XF rubber for an extremely grippy, high-traction sole that won't leave you on your ass when things get slick. A nylon shank throughout the midsole gives you just enough stiffness to help avoid rolling ankles, without making these feel like you're running in clunky mountaineering boots.

    Great shoes, run small

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 13/47

I first purchased a pair of these puppies in November, 2014. They are my daily drivers up here in Alaska and I wear them year round. That first pair lasted for 18 months. Just got my second pair. Bit confused by the reviews that say they run true to size. They definitely run small. Really small. I wear an 11 in Salomon and most everything else, but in these I wear a 13/47. I do wear mid-weight socks though, in order to keep my toes cozy in the winter - and most of the rest of the year for that matter. The soles are super grippy which is what you'd expect from La Sportiva. Bit confused by the reviewer who slipped 30 times (and could have gotten hurt). Maybe you need something more hardcore for the treacherous terrain in the Catskill Hills? Not sure, but I use them everywhere in Alaska from Homer to Fairbanks and many mountains in between and can say with assurance that they kick butt. Gore-tex keeps feet warm and dry (as long as you don't get too deep), soles are good for scrambling and even bouldering. Soft, yes, but no excessive wearing. I don't run on pavement, though. Pretty much always off road. Had some wear and tear inside the ankle support, but that's what you'd expect after 18 months of daily use (plus they were a bit small on me, so jamming my feet in time after time didn't help much in the fabric maintenance department). I love these shoes and will definitely get another pair in another 18 months.

    Comfortable, Stable and Grippy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 46

My soles wore out quick, wah wah. Stop crying people! The more grippy the sole the softer the rubber and the quicker it wears out. You don't hear anybody say they slipped and are in the hospital, do you? If safety and light weight comfort are important to you than this is the shoe for you. If you're cheap and want your shoes to last forever than yes, you should look elsewhere. These are my new go to shoe for summer hikes and if I have to buy a new pair each season, so be it. It's the price you pay to be in heaven! In the Adirondacks at the Mountaineer in Keene Valley, this is the go to shoe for every employee for summer hiking and slide climbs.
I also find these run small. I usually wear a size 11.5 but had to order a 12.5 after trying them on. That leaves enough room not to jam toes on the decent. (46) Keep giving them bad reviews people so I can get them cheap on clearance - lol

    VERY DISSAPOINTED !!!!!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

ive been a sportiva FANATIC for over 20 years !!!! ive own and LOVED EVERY pair of of boots ive had from them (such as the makalu, the nepals, the baturas, and the spantiks ) this was my first pair of trail running shoes from them and CANNOT believe how quickly i DESTROYED the soles .... i used them in the whites of N.H., and out in CO. running some 14ers.. luckily i bought TWO pairs.. also have a pair of north face trail running shoes and they kick the sportivas ASS... NEVER AGAIN will i buy these shoes..TOTAL GARBAGE. ( but they WERE comfortable !!!! )

    Nice shoe, bad sole

I liked the shoe itself. Light, stable and comfortable on rough trails. However the sole started falling apart right away (on both shoes). After a few 4 mile runs it looks like I have just finished an around the world ultra. I am very disappointed.

      Very Disappointed

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 10

My favorite shoes is my old La Sportiva Raptor. I have about 5 different pairs of hiking shoes, but I almost never wear the other pairs because I trust my Raptors to hold my feet in place when I am up in the mountains. However, they are getting old so I couldn't wait to get a new pair of shoes. Unfortunately, La Sportiva probably lost their old formula for the soles they used the last time, because this latest edition of the Raptors has the worst grip of any shoes I've ever tried on.

I've never written a review for any product before no matter how bad it is, but my new Raptors are so terrible that I am finally writing my first review ever. I was such a fan of my old Raptors so I was in denial when my instincts told me that my new shoes weren't too grippy on my kitchen floor. Maybe I just got unlucky and got a defective batch, but they are really the worst shoes I've ever tried.

I took them to the Devil's Path in the Catskills, and I really, really, really regretted that decision. I felt so unsafe in them, and I could really have gotten hurt. I must have slipped about 30 times in the first 10 miles alone. Most times, my back foot merely shifted slightly as I took a step. A few times, both feet slid, and I was flailing to regain my balance. Once, I actually fell on my butt. All these despite being more careful than I normally am. I am only exaggerating slightly when I say that these shoes have the grip of roller blades when you're walking on damp rocks or even dry rocks, if they are sloping. Shoes are supposed to give you some confidence that you're going to stay in place. I did not get that confidence at all with my new Raptors. I felt almost that same anxiety when I am walking on ice.

These shoes will let you down. The only question is how much will they let you down. Wear them for fashion because they are really beautiful, and you will get compliments for them. But don't go scrambling up rocks with them because these shoes are only meant to be looked at. They are not meant for any action.

      Great Shoe

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

Probably the best thing about this shoe is that it fits TRUE TO SIZE. I have seen many review on other sites saying they fit small, but I wear size 13 always, and this fits perfectly at size 47. Haven't run them through the ringer yet, but the quality and the looks are both great.

      love them

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size

fits really well and there are no uncomfortable seams. Despite daily runs in wet conditions my feet never get wet- these are truly waterproof. Have had two pairs of Solomon trail runners in the past and I like the LaSportivas better for two main reasons: the Solomon speed lace mechanism seems cool, but it slips and the shoes become loose during a run (LaSportiva laces are simple laces and they work fine). Also construction quality is better on the LaSportiva (shoe sole separated on one pair of Solomons). No regrets spending some extra cash for these.
