Dispatch steep sport climbs and difficult boulder problems with the quickness thanks to the extreme sensitivity and aggressive shape of the La Sportiva Men’s Speedster Climbing Shoe. This lightweight minimalist slipper gives you optimal edge control and steep footwork performance thanks to its no-stretch Lorica upper and gecko-like 3mm Vibram XS Grip sole. Added rubber over the forefoot helps you stick to difficult toe hooks, and stretch Cordura panels make it easy to get in and out without compromising fit.

Bottom Line: An aggressive, minimalist slipper for sensitive edging and powerful climbing.

a replacement for sportiva's mantra-s, this sensitive shoe feels very downturned. with a combination of leather and synthetic, the shoe has not stretched much but i still downsized as much as i could (9.0 street to 39.0). the rubber on the top of the toe is great for toe hooks and bicycles while the heel seems to feel like rubber painted on my skin - perfect. a peculiar thing is that the toe edges are rounded right out of the box, which some have said slightly detracts from edging ability. the vibram xs-grip2 is super sticky!

I didn't want to rate this shoe because I returned the pair without using them, but will note: this shoe, size 43 is much tighter than the Mythos of the same size, and this is a very curved shoe.

so did these replace the vipers?
also why round the edges?
should i go with the cobra slip on?
ever thing else i get, just not the rounded edges. my edges round off fast enough anyway. i usually look forward to that small period of fresh edges with a new pair of shoes. it says it's for sport and bouldering and that's what i do, i just don't see the advantage.

Excited but...

By:
November 21, 2009

I got these guys from my Sportiva rep, I was super excited about them because I have heard such great things. Unfortunately, my size hurt my 2nd toe so much (as it is the longest). I went up a size and my toe didn't hurt, but it was definitely too big. From what I can gather is the shoe is amazing, it just is not for my feet. The camber on it is def helpful through and through. If it fit my foot I would probably be in love with it to no end. I will give it a 4 because I can't justify giving it a 5 with my feet rejecting this piece of art.

Speedster were worth waiting for!!!

I have been waiting for a long time for sportiva to come up with the replacment for the Mantra S, and finally they did.

I just recived the pair and tried it indoor, the are awsome. the rubber is super sticky but more then any thing the build, Feel and fit are amazing!
they are super thin but snug and the rim is stiffer so I dont think that after a short while they will become loose like the 5.10 project.

Love these, now I need to find a project worthy enough.

i just opened my box and put these shoes on, they feel real good, so good i can't feel my toes any more. that's the way i like'em. however i don't know how i feel about the rounded edges. whats the advantage of that? everthing else about these shoes make me so happy.

Do the Speedsters have the same heel cup feel and fit as the La Sportiva - Testarossas? They appear to be the same. Unfortunately, the Testarossa heel is too big a pocket for my heel. Even with smashed toes i still have a "squishy" heel and can't set solid heel hooks.

it is a different heel. Think the muira heel only the rubber part in the back is not exposed (which on the muira means that heel hooking on smaller edges can peel the rubber away from the heel) I myself tried out a pair of testarossas and found the heel to be saggy. I own the muira vs, solution and speedsters and the speedster heel is the best of them. So, if your heel fits comfortably into the muira heel you should absolutely love the speedster. Just for reference I am a 11 street shoe and I size all of my sportivas at 41 (8.5) and it seems to be the best fit for me.

Just wondering about the sizing of these-I'm size 40 in the Scarpa Stix and 40.5 in the Red Chili Matadors. Also, will the sole wear out quick with only 3 mm of rubber?

very similar to the scarpa sizing, I wear the same size in both. the sole will wear these are not gym shoes (as far as I see it) the are for outdoors use to help you crank your project.
