Why We Like The Futura Climbing Shoe

Gone are the days of wool socks in bulky, blocky, leather climbing shoes—for the most part, anyway—the contemporary climber is sporty, strong, and ready to tackle climbs that were unimaginable a decade ago. The Futura Climbing Shoe is our choice for demanding, technical, and revolutionary ascents ranging from overhung boulder problems to strong sport routes.

Featuring La Sportiva's No Edge technology, this aggressively downturned, highly asymmetrical climbing shoe feels extremely sensitive so you can feel for the largest, microscopic footholds on any given rock climb. It also features La Sportiva's P3 Technology to retain the shoe's aggressive downturn and high asymmetry for the shoe's life.

Durable and Consistant

When I bought these I was a bit apprehensive about the whole No-Edge thing, but I will have to say these shoes earned my admiration fast. You wont have that grip of a crisp edge on a brand new, aggressive, regular sole climbing shoes, but its pretty close. However if you compare no edge shoes to regular soles after, say a month and a half of regular use, they will provide a much more consistent experience throughout their lifespan. I've had mine for about 2 months now and though the shoes have been broken in, toe grip is essentially unchanged. The last feels pretty good for my relatively wide feet. The heel feels great, especilly compared to shoes like the La Sportiva Solutions. Toes have decent coverage for toe hooks as well

First time wearing no-edge

+ Simple closure that is easy to put on and take off + Good fit -- no points of discomfort or space in the heel + Heel hooks felt good and rarely unexpectedly popped out + Toe hooks felt great and never unexpectedly slid off > No notable changes to my footwork switching from traditional soles to no-edge soles - Sole adhesive was not properly applied to one of my shoes which led to premature and uneven wear - No-edge makes it difficult to know how close the shoe is to needing new rubber - No-edge may make resoling more difficult Verdict: I'm not impressed, but not disappointed either. I was expecting a little more change switching over from traditional soles to no-edge, but I found myself using these almost exactly like every other shoe I had previously owned. For reference, I was previously using Kubos and occasionally Solutions. I climb 5.11 outdoors. I think it's worth it to try out no-edge technology at least once, but don't expect some tectonic shift in your footwork unless you're a crusher who can understand the nuances of no-edge better than I.

Best sensitive, soft precise shoe on the market

One of the best shoes on the market. Sensitive, precise and comfortable. These shoes climbs super well whether its a gym climb or a Yosemite granite climb. The No-Edge feature and fit of this shoe make it one of my favorite softer shoes.

Got my 4th pair of these wonderful climbing shoes and they fit like a glove. I used them mostly for indoor sport climbing and bouldering and they never disappoint me at all. You can smear on the wall and stand on volumes on this thing. I wear 7.5 or 8 on street shoes and 5 on futura's, so it's 2.5 to 3 sizes down for a performace fit. They're soft so they do breakin fast. Sensitive climbing shoes and once you get used to it, you'll never look for a different model.

Best Shoes!

These are the best shoes I’ve ever owned. Not too Soft and not too stiff. Confident edging, toe hooks, Heel hooks and everything in between. I’ve found the shoe I’ll continue to use over and over again!

Continue to be blown away by these shoes

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These shoes are so versatile. I use them on steep lines and slabs. They work so well on almost all angles. The perform superbly where soft shoes (like the Python) excel, and I have also let me Miura's stay in the closet ever since buying these as these perform as well on lines where I used to like the stiffer Miuras. They have an amazing mix of sensitivity with a weird ability to confidently stand on small edges (smedging). They are very comfortable for an aggressive shoe and they also hold-up really well. I have had good luck with resoles turning out really well (rock and resole). These are my favorite shoes for high performance. The two places they do not excel at are heal hooking and stabbing into very small pockets (like at Ten Sleep). For routes that have super small pockets or technical heal hooks, I would use Solutions, but for almost anything else, the Futura's outshine them all.

Super sticky and sensitive = Top quality shoes

The Futura are my go-to shoes for hard boulders and lead projects ! I have these shoes for over 9 months and really love them! The no-edge technology brings my toes much closer to the rock compared to regular climbing shoes. This allows me to transfer the power directly through my toes onto the rock and not onto an artificial edge, which could bend or collapse. Their sensitivity makes my foot movements more precise and safer. The shoes are built with the P3 midsole, which retains its shape easily under pressure. The Velcro lacing system is perfect for stepping in and out of them easily without compromising the tight fit. You should try these shoes outside or inside! You will not regret it!

No-Edge for the win!

I purchased these a month ago after finally destroying my beloved Pythons. I was hesitant to invest in the No-Edge technology for a high-level climbing shoe but the Futuras performed exceedingly well right out of the box. I put them to the test on some difficult slab climbing at the New River Gorge and was surprised at how well I could edge on the rounded no edge. I'm a huge fan of soft-soled shoes and the ultra-comfortable midsole fit my arch right away. For reference, I wear 37.5 in these and most other LaSpo shoes, so the sizing is on point for me.

The Best Shoe!

Best shoe for bouldering/sport climbing. I love everything about the shoe and the aggressive-ness is perfect. Another great feature a lot of people over look is the resole options. They come back with La Sportiva soles, so brand new rubber with the comfort of your worn in shoe.
