What's lightweight, all synthetic, and built to dominate high-elevation alpine treks, winter mountaineering, and ice climbing? The La Sportiva Men's Batura Evo Mountaineering Boot—that's what. A highly water-resistant gaiter lets you charge through knee-deep snow, and six-layer construction fends off chilling temperatures that would otherwise threaten your summit attempt. For viciously long approaches, the TPU midsole stiffner and SBR aircushion in the heel provide comfort and support. Vibram soles finish off this light-and-fast footwear so you can count on steadfast footing from base camp to the final push to flag-plant.

  • Low-profile elasticized gaiter has an integrated water-resistant membrane and closes with an asymmetric waterproof zipper
  • Inner boot uses thermally expanded polyethelene foam with a polyamide layer for warmth and a mesh inner to encourage moisture-wicking and evaporative cooling
  • Board-lasted construction remains flexible for efficient heel-to-toe roll when walking on flat ground
  • 8-9mm TPU midsole stiffener creates a solid platform necessary for use with crampons and includes a SBR Aircushion midsole for comfort on long, rocky ascents
  • Tough Vibram outsole with Impact Brake System uses double-inclined internal and external treads for ample traction in highly variable terrain

Bottom Line: Answer the call of the alpine.

Is there a significant difference between these and the Nepal Evo other than the built in gaiter?

There are several differences with the biggest being the gaiter and synthetic vs leather. In overall boot applications and performance I consider them very close.

That's what these were made for. These or the Nepal EVO would be great.

Awesome boots

Bought these boots for ice climbing and winter mountaineering in the Sierras. I'm very happy with them after two days on the ice at Lake Tahoe. The built in gaiter keeps water out even when you punch through frozen creeks and end up ankle deep in a streambed. They're definitely warm and very comfortable for the approach. I found that they didn't need all that much breaking in to feel good on my feet. Loving these boots so far. Ice climbs in Chamonix await.

Concerning the inner boot layer- is it removable, or is it permanently attached to the bottom? if not, I'd assume the fit is tight enough so that it is secure- is that true?

It is attached to the boot. The outside layer is really just a shell to cover the boot up and add some insulation. The shell is quite snug to the boot..

Fantastic Boots!

These are awesome boots. Super warm, and light. I recently did 10 miles in the catskills to break them in, had no hot spots, and was very comfortable. It was about 18 degrees, and they kept my feet plenty warm. Fit with crampons were excellent, sizing is certainly a little odd, they fit perfectly for me as a size 46. I wear a 45.5 in La Sportiva trail runners. The integrated gaiter is very effective, and helps to keep your feet a bit warmer too. They do take a long time to dry out though.

Yes and yes. They work great with BD Sabertooth crampons and they should be fine for 4000 - 5000 meter peaks.
