With tons of pocket storage and mesh ventilation, the Kuhl Mens Z Cargo Short might be the ultimate summertime hiking short. The functional blend of cotton and nylon gives you a balance between a comfortable feel and quick-drying performance. Kuhl also added a Sidewinder adjustable waist to let you dial in the perfect fit.
Bottom Line: Comfortable summerwear with tons of storage space.
Well worth the cheese - these shorts rock. Cool, lightwieght, breathable, durable, comfortable, and can be used for anything - even swimming.
I've noticed the main con for these babies is that the zippers rattle when walking. This is true - however - there's a tiny fabric pocket where the zipper meets the shorts to close the cargo pocket. You can tuck the zipper handle into these pockets on both sides and problem solved. No rattling!
I bought the brown first - came back on here to buy the kakhis.
I wore these shorts for 8 months while on an ultra light backpacking trip in Southeast Asia. They were worn every day for almost 190 days straight and their durability impressed me. These were the ONLY shorts I brought and I washed them nightly in the hotel room sink with all different kinds of detergent, soap and shampoo. At the end of the trip I had no failed stitching and the pockets held up to serious abuse. I took them climbing, white water rafting, hiking, canyoning, SCUBA diving and swimming in salt water. Even after the salt water exposure the zippers held up well. They are light weight, dry quickly and hold up to the extremes. Towards the end of the trip the khaki color started turning green for some reason, but overall they are great shorts.

Love these shorts!! Fit great, cool and light. Only issue is on the newer versions the zippers on the side pockets rattle as you walk. Would recommend these to anyone!
you can tuck the zipper in a flap in the pants to make them stop rattling. It took me a few wears to figure this out, but it looks like it's designed for this.
I'm 6'5" and 210lb with a 36in waist and got the XL - I just needed to take the belt straps in 1" total. Nice secure buckles on the belt straps. Good length (mid-kneecap) and the fabric is nice. Seems like it will take a beating, but soft/pliable and won't chafe. Looking forward to getting out in these. I have larger thighs and high stepping in these shorts doesn't tighten up the crotch like other shorts - woot. Velcro on three different sized cargo pockets is nice for quick access. Think I'll get another pair eventually.
I like the shorts but the sizing needs some work - large is 34-36 and I am a 36 with Columbia shorts sizing. The large is too tight its not a 36 and when I go to the XL 38-40 I have to use the sizing tabs on the side to pull the waist in all the way. I wish a large was 36-38. I like the feel and features but the sizing needs some work.
I love Zees shorts zay are Z best! Seriously, great feeling fabric breathes very good but still feels rugged enough to take any camping/hiking/climbing trip head on. These shorts seem to be very well thought out as far as the pockets and the fit. My favorite thing is the adjustable waist...brilliant. USA made baby!
The 12in inseam means these actually fit like "normal" cargo shorts that most people are used to these days (the come all the way down to your knees). I'm 6ft 170lbs with a 32in waist and the size medium fit perfect.
I like these a lot, but they are not too comfortable for backpacking, as the clips on the hips can get really uncomfortable under a hip belt. I'm tempted to cut them off, but the adjustable waist is one of the things I like about them.
