Description

Now, isn't that better than sitting around indoors?

It's a perfect weekend day, so stop lolling around in your jammies drinking coffee, pull on the KUHL Women's Splash Roll-Up Pant, and get outdoors. This lightweight pant with a soft, cottony feel has just enough spandex woven in so that you move easily on the trail as you begin to wake up and pick up the pace. If you start to warm up, snap tabs on the lower leg let you roll up the cuffs and secure them; this also comes in handy if you come across a mountainside stream you simply have to dip your feet into. And should you slip on a mossy rock and get a little wetter than anticipated, the Splash pant dries faster than cotton, so by the time you get back to down you're looking presentable again.

Cozy!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

These pants are super flattering! I typically wear a size 4 but was able to get a size 2 and they fit perfect. I'll use them for hiking and climbing. Love them and can't wait!

durable after 2 yrs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love these pants. I've put them through a lot -- countless hikes, rock climbing trips, and general running around. They have never let me down -- they are rugged. I bought them 2 years ago and they now are starting to show some signs of wear at the knees (small holes forming at the seams) but I like the fit and will probably wear them for a long time until they finally fall apart.

They are comfortable but good looking -- fitted but not too tight, yet not overly baggy. The ample pockets are very useful.

My waist size is 25" and I'm 5'4". The size 2 has fit me well (but it's slightly loose so it's helpful to have a belt if I'm bouldering).

The carbon color is a nice dark gray and hides dirt, chalk, and other grime relatively well.

Would these pants be good for climbing? I have yet to find thin yet durable pants for this purpose. My normal hiking pants don't breathe enough for climbing.

Responded on

Deb... check out prAna stuff. Super breathable and purpose built for climbing.

Best Answer Responded on

Give the Outdoor Research Ferrosi pants a look - they're breathable and lightweight. I love mine. They're a super super light weight softshell. Great for summer but super durable and pretty breathable.

Responded on

I've climbed (bouldering, sport climbing) in these for 2 yrs. I find them comfortable and allow for flexibility. But, they're better for cooler weather. They're not particularly breathable, but they ARE durable and you won't worry about tearing holes in them on the rock.

Finally! REAL Cargo pants for women!

For years, I've been searching for female cargo pants. Sadly, everywhere I went, I only found "fashion" cargos (i.e., skinny jeans with narrow slits for pockets) or "working" cargos (think Dickies for utilitarian uniforms - very unflattering). I just couldn't find anything that was both feminine and functional...until these pants!

I LOVE the back - I can reach down, squat down, and never have to worry about my underwear or plumber's crack! Comfortable and lightweight - and yet very durable. Dries incredibly fast, too!

Only drawbacks I've noticed: the sizing sometimes is inconsistent. I normally wear a 6 in everything, but KUHL kind of runs small (or all the other stores run large, which I don't want to consider, ha!). So an 8 it is then...still a little loose. However, when I ordered a second pair in black - seriously, these are my favorite pants - the same size in 8 was a full inch smaller in the waist and crotch! It's still wearable, but feels tight and I can't wear it on prolonged hikes.

And the cargo pockets could be a little more spacious, in my opinion, but now I'm just being picky ;)

tl;dr - Best pair of fashionable cargo pants available for women I've found that are still functional and comfortable, but have sizing issues.

Finally! REAL Cargo pants for women!

Agreed on the pockets - manufactures need to learn some women like big pockets!

Style and fit are good; however...

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

the cargo pocket button fell off the first time I wore it! I will try to fix it myself. My husband also purchased a pair of Kuhl (convertible style) and one of the zipper 'stubs' broke the first time he wore them and returned them as they were unusable. Mmm...is something going on with quality control or once they get people hooked on their product, are they making changes? With that said I still think it is the best brand compared to others but I won't stay loyal, if future pants have quality control issues (not for the prices charged for this brand). I bought two other pair and we will see what happens when I wear them. The Pant does stretch after wearing and the material seems to be slightly different than the men's version (prefer the latter as it seems more water repellent and softer).

Love 'em!

After spending 3 hours looking for the perfect cargo pants for my trip to Spain - walking the Camino,
I found these and love them. I only wish they were 1 inch higher in the back. I noticed a little difference in fit from one color to the next even though the size was the same. The black size 10 felt more like a size 12, but the other 2 colors were just right.
They are roomy and comfy and I'm a happy camper.

Sounds good to me, as I am also on my way to Spain...

Would this be lightweight enough for hiking in 90 degree weather?

Best Answer Responded on

Hi Skye,

These pants will be lightweight enough, and I would wear these in 90 degree weather if I was working somewhere pants were preferred over shorts, but I would also pack shorts just in case you start to overheat.

Favorite Pants

Had to go back for a second pair! I now own both the green and black pairs of these! The only thing that took me by surprise was that my new black pair are loser and a bit shorter than my green pair. Not that I really mind, but I'll have to wait to see if the black pair shrinks (I've worn the green pair for over a year so it's been washed probably a hundred times)

Responded on

Shelby, did your green pair ever shrink?

Responded on

they didn't shrink. I think the pattern that they used for the green was possibly smaller (this is from the little knowledge I have for pant production) than the pattern for the black pair. It's not enough to make me regret the size I purchased but it is fairly noticeable. It's also good to note that I purchased the green pair from a store and the black pair from backcountry (not sure if this could make a difference)

Responded on

Shelby, I'm 5'9" do you think these will be long enough for me? It seems like typical pants have an inseam of 32

Responded on

I'm 5'7 1/2 so yeah they should be good. If not you could always return them... why I love backcountry :)

SKEPTICAL AT FIRST, BUT PROVED ME WRONG

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I went into a small mom and pop shop for some hiking gear a few weeks ago. Initially, I went in looking for a pair of rugged mountain hardwares, or maybe some Marmot's. When the sales guy offered these to me, I had actually never heard of the brand before. He assured me they would be better than any other brand that I was looking at for my 3 day backpacking trip into the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia. So I tried them on. I decided to go a size up because this particular pair is a traditional straight leg style fit. Although semi stretchy and slightly loose, for a 27 mile hike, nearly 3000 ft of climb and over 6 miles of bouldering in the harsh winter weather (snow, ice, and freezing rain), I went a size up. I wore some merino wools underneath, and these pants stood the test. They didn't tear or rip on sharp rocks, they dried easily even in freezing weather conditions, they never got completely soaked or wet because of the material, and they are super soft and super comfortable. I am not sure I will ever buy another pair or North Face or any other similar brand ever again. Now that I am home, I am buying up more for the coming year and for my planned hikes. These pants would be very comfortable in summer conditions as well as they are breathable, thin and very light.

My personal preference is to go a size up. If you're buying them for "fashion".... they run true to size. If you need more flexibility for steep climbs, and more movement, go a size up (at least that is my own opinion). I wear a size 4 or 6 normally in pants or jeans, and I am 5"9 1/2 and almost 135 lbs. I purchased a size 8, and I love them. They are my favorite pair of pants !!!

Happy exploring!

Great Quality Pants!

My wife purchased these pants nearly a year ago. She has worn them on most of our longer hikes this year, & she couldn't be happier with them. They are quick drying, light, & indestructible! She is 5'2" so the length was a little long, once they were hemmed up she was unstoppable!

Can anyone compare the fit of these to a breathable, waterproof pant--like the Marmot Davos?

Best Answer Responded on

The KUHLs and the Marmot Davos are a similar cut and should fit very similar. Do keep in mind though that the Davos is a softshell and will feel heavier than the KUHL, and you probably normally layer under your Davos where you wouldn't with this pant. Though, again, they will be a very similar cut.

Love, love, love the fit!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

These are my new favorites. They sit perfectly on the hips--below the waist but not low rise. Curiously, I do not find these are cut small. I had to go down a size. I am usually a size 6. That was a little baggy on me, but the 4 fits great. I am 5'3" and 125 lbs--athletic build. The pants move really well. Very comfortable and flexible. Great range of motion. I cannot wait to get out in the wilderness with them!

Wear these all the time!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have several pairs of these pants! I absolutely love them, my initial impression when I first put them on was that they were small and thin. But I have worn them all summer long and have found that after a few minutes they stretch out some and fit a little easier. The fabric is thin, yes, but extreamly durable! I have not been able to tear or stain them yet and I have done everything from hunting, fishing for days in them and some crazy hiking trips! My only issue is that I am 5'6" and weight 130 lbs and the 8 is running a little big once it stretchs out but the lenght is just so. No room to be an inch taller! Overall, I love these pants!

Still run small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I purchased my first kuhl pants about 3 years ago and wear nothing but kuhl for hiking.
I love the granite cols from previous season and I like the idea of a convertable pant so I was happy with the splash roll up
I again i had to purchase a size 12 for comfort.
I wear size 29/30 in jeans and the 10s were too small.
I have just purchased the banditaconvertable in granite but they are a diff col.
Keep the cargo pockets on future styles, I find them more flattering and are a bit more edgy than other competitors.
Would love a techno denim in any kuhl styles with pkts.

KUHL Pants

I absolutely love these pants, they are super comfortable and wonderfully lightweight, I'm fairly tall and the inseam is just the right length, they run fairly true to size.

Make a splash

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love Kuhl clothing. But, the pants always seem to have a rather, interesting fit. I keep trying different styles, because I'm convinced that because they are "born in the mountains", that they should have a pant to fit someone who runs and skis...uphill. I've tried several pairs and these finally seemed to fit just right, with one exception. The waist is a little high. Maybe I've just become overly accustomed to low-rise jeans over the past decade and this is how pants are supposed to fit? It's not bothersome, just different.

The fabric is a little light. I am preferential to the thicker canvas like fabric of the men's pants. But, it's not so lightweight that I'd return them.

I love the roll-up hems!

Kuhl pants definitely run a bit small. I ordered a full size larger.

Great pants!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are really great pants. Taking them on a trip to Europe. They meet and exceed everything I want - except for the length. I had to shorten them as the length was way too long. They are worth the trouble.

Almost worth it

The insides of these pants are finished off so poorly that they fray. The hems are not hemmed after the sides are sewn. For this price, not worth it. Expect better.

What is the rise of these pants (inseam of crotch to top of waistband)?

Hey infp500796,

Thanks for the question. The KUHL Splash Roll-Up Pant - Women's has a front rise of 8 inches and a back rise of 12 inches.
