Run small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

Great fabric with a great feel, just be aware they run a little small in the waist. I wear Kuhl Rydr pants regularly and love them. I wear a 36 waist in those without issue and they fit just like I like them. I picked these up in a 36 waist and the waist was tight, going to return and try a different size. For reference I am 6'4" @ 215 lbs. 36 is pretty much my standard waist size, so these run a little small.

Best shorts ever!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have used and abused these shorts for years now. I work in them (Personal Trainer), play in them in the mountains, relax in them at home, wear them all the time. After years of use and washes they have some pilling but I am surprised that they have not ripped, faded or fallen apart in any way. The DWR is still going strong, they don't stain easy and move with you so well, better than gym shorts. I have 3 pair of pants and 3 pair of these 12" shorts. I also have Prana Zion pants and shorts and those come in a not so close 2nd. There is no 3rd place though. Just these pants and shorts - all the time. Plus they are a great company doing great things. Buy a few pair.

Get these

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

at 6'4 195 the 32 is pretty spot on and i wear 32's. Super light and comfy great for hotter spots, rugged enough to delve into some rugged nature.
Look awesome, I have 3 pairs of renegade would have 20 if they made that many colors.
Great pockets too stash tons of stuff, look killer around town. Butt is to die for in them, ha.
Get a pair, don't hesitate, do it now!!

February Heat Kuhl Shorts

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

In Utah we're known to throw on the shorts even throughout the winter and with the weather recently in the 60's these awesomely cool looking shorts were put to use. Love the great fit and comfort. Kuhl is the leader when it comes to shorts in my book and I'll be sporting them along with other models throughout the year inside or outside they rule.

i agree with what everyone has said. these are comfy, water repellent stretchy durable stretches a little when it gets wet but what shorts dont? i love these shorts. good for everything. i am 6foot 1 and these are just a tiny bit shorter than i would like but its hard to come by shorts with a 13.5 in inseam

Comfortable and Durable

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These shorts are super comfortable. I used them swimming and hiking through the Subway in Zions National park. The material is very stain resistant as well, it seems to be a pretty bombproof short. Obviously they are expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Stoked to have these!!

Great shorts!

Stretchy, comfortable and sharp looking. I just had to order another pair. Only gripe is, the pockets are a bit shallow. So I got a pair of the Krux shorts and couldn't be happier. Might have to check out the pants too...Kuhl is so cool!

Awesome shorts for an active lifestyle.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shorts are amazing. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because I just really don't give out 5 stars for anything. The fit and durability is top notch. They stretch great while climbing and I love the loop in the back for attaching a chalk bag for bouldering. These are the only shorts I wear to climb in fact I think I will order another pair right now.

Excellent Soft-shell Shorts

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I picked up a couple pairs of these shorts back in March - a little early for shorts weather in Nebraska (especially this year). I've had the opportunity to wear them several times, however, and I like them a lot. My wife loves how they look. I really like how they fit and don't bind during strenuous activities. I wore them for an adventure race and was very happy with how they performed while I was running, riding and paddling.

Probably my only complaint is the zippered pockets. The zippers don't slide easily enough that they can be closed with one hand. They open one-handed just fine, though.

One nice bonus is that you can actually wear a "real" belt with these shorts. The belt loops are plenty large to fit a 1.5 belt. I really don't like the shorts that come with their own 1" wide belt.

Definitely my favorite active wear shorts!

Update 6/18/2013: Initially, I was a bit hesitant to wear these shorts for anything more than casual use. However, they're so comfortable and flexible that I decided to give them a try for a sprint distance (3-4 hours) adventure race. Much to my surprise they survived with no apparent wear or tear. Last weekend I wore them during a 12 hour adventure race. We ran, we canoed, we biked, we rappelled - all in rocks, thistles, briars, trees, brush, barbed wire fences and intermittent rain. Again, these shorts survived with no apparent wear or tear. I was, frankly, amazed. I expected the soft, lightweight fabric to show signs of the extreme use - maybe even have to be discarded. Nope. Good as new.

I'll be buying more as backups ... just in case I can find a way to wear these out.

Excellent Soft-shell Shorts

funny, you're wearing under armour, i think? shorts in this pic for KUHLS, probably just a whoops, upload, i've done worse.. kuhls are great discovered them 2 years ago and i use them as my bike shorts on my recumbents. cargo pockets and all pockets have have good velcro or good zippers for closure is a must for me. After 2 years of rotating 2 pairs 2 or 3 times a week , the velcro is still tight and solid on the Z cargo, will try the ambush and others this season.

mpip, that is ironic. I uploaded the pic for my avatar and it somehow got posted in-line.

Good shorts.

Got 2 pair of these shorts over the last two summers.
They're comfy, hold up really well, and make a good swim trunk with my favorite synthetic boxer briefs as they dry quickly.

My ownly grip is that I wish they were a little shorter and I guess less "big" in general.

This may be my own fault as weight gain caused by a soul crushing indoor job surrounded by fast food outlets led me to surrender to 38's. Already shedding pounds due a more pleasant/active situation so I'll update things if I end up 36's (my normal size).

Quality control?

I'm on my 4th pair this summer. Had 1 seam blow out (replaced), then another had the wrong size tag on it. But both pairs have lost the fly button and needed to be re-sewn - no biggee for me. Just watch the pockets as they like to snag on things. Oh, and the zippers shoud be open when you pull up, not the way they are in this year's version. I lost a Clif bar on a climb that way -- coulda been worse. But these are super comfy, dry fast and go from crag to town easily.

Perfect Cut - Love the Material

I love the cut and fit of these shorts. The way they hang/drape was exactly what I was looking for. The material is similar to a stretchy thin soft shell material, and is ideal for any activity where you need freedom of movement. Perfect for climbing or bouldering and not having to worry about getting your leg caught up in your shorts on those high knee moves. I also wear them mountain biking quite a bit with some bibs underneath. The cut and fit lets you easily wear them to the bar when you're done playing.

I'm 5'11" 180lbs: the 32 fits a little loose in the waist and hangs just below my knee cap. As others mentioned, they do stretch a bit after wearing them all day and getting them sweaty (wet) so I always wear them with a belt. That stretch is the advantage of this material though so I don't see it as a negative.

For the active person

Talk about comfortable and a short that does it all. I would recommend these to anyone that lives an active lifestyle. As others have mentioned they do sag when wet, but what shorts don't? Wearing a belt is a quick fix for that.

outdoorsy but not frumpy

These look great on my husband, not frumpy but still outdoorsy cool. He gets a lot of compliments on them and loves the stretchy but loose fit. I ended up buying him another pair in another color.

Very nice shorts for outdoor use except...

I love this shorts. It's light, cool, it even repels water. It has spandex and that makes this shorts very comfortable. My only complain is that, when the shorts gets wet, it stretches a little. When I used this pant at water park and near the beach, I felt like this pants was gonna slide off of me. It was barely hanging on my butt. I still love the shorts for other outdoor activity. I have 2 of them and I'ld buy them again and strongly recommend the product.

Amazing, but

Amazing short, fit was a little inbetween sizes for me but that is not at all their fault.
So stylish. so comfy, but sooo thin wearing them at work was a little bit on the revealing side if you know what I mean.

Do it all shorts!

These shorts are amazing! Super light, stretchy, quick drying, and durable. They have become my to-go climbing and hiking short for warm weather. I pull them out of the wash and throw them over a chair and they are dry in the morning. Great product, liked them so much I bought the Renegade pants too!
