Here's what others have to say...

Run small.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I had to return these because they were too tight in the waist for my husband. Otherwise, they seemed nice.

Great multi-purpose shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The fit is great and lend themselves well to both outdoor activities or just kicking it around town. I like the side pockets a lot for when you just need to stow a car key and a couple of essentials. I can wear these to the gym or happy hour, or both. I may buy a second pair.

No Stretch

Ok, so who was the idiot at Kuhl who had the great idea to add a pocket to the left side also. These are beach/board shorts, how much crap can you be carrying while swimming or surfing.
The zippers for these pockets feel bulky and have no stretch and no give therefor removing all the usefulness of the stretch fabric on the side panels. You only feel it when bending or sitting but it was a dumb idea.
In addition the zipper rider thingy closes to the back(another error in design) so when you sit it presses against your hipbone/butt. Compared to Patagonia's the zipper closes to the front, out of the way, plus it's easier to use.
It's obvious the people at Kuhl don't use there own gear as I realised this within 10 minutes of handling and wearing the shorts.

Last seasons model had a pocket on the right side only, they were perfect now I will likely send these back and go with the less attractive but better deign Patagonias. Shame as otherwise these are really comfortable. The string closure is a pia but easily remedied by tying a knot at the end, doesn't come out now.

They get the job done

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These shorts perform well, they have great range of motion, dry quickly (and I do mean very quickly), are a great length, and have 2 zippered pockets (one on each side) that are large enough for a cell phone.

As with other Kuhl products, the size is a tad small, I wear a 32 and the 32 in these is a hair too snug, but not enough of a problem to send them back.

I do enjoy them, and I would recommend them, it may not hurt to go one size larger however.

Missed the mark.

I am a big fan of Kuhl products and this was the first one that has missed the mark for me. Don't get me wrong, the fit and finish was great, just as you would expect for Kuhl. The problem I had was that the tie string was very thin and came unlaced when pulling the shorts over my hips, the eyelets for the string was so small that it was difficult to re-lace while wearing them. They were not too long or overly baggy and had two great zipper pockets for your gear. Hope they work better for you, but I sent mine back.

Love these shorts. I kinda had the same issue. I tied a knot at the end of each lace. They are long enough and there is plenty of slack. They stay laced up and rock on!
