The Kühl Men's Liberator Convertible Pants are versatile enough to handle an intense day of climbing, a trek across the Pyrenees, or a weekend canoeing trip. Stealth zippers are set into a spandex band for added flexibility and to keep the zippers' profile as low as possible, and DryPoint fabric offers total comfort and easy wear. Even if you get wet fording a stream or during a slippery portage, these pants dry quickly so you don't stay soggy.

  • DryPoint fabric puts soft, hydrophilic cotton inside and durable, hydrophobic nylon outside to help draw moisture away from your skin so it can evaporate quickly
  • UPF 40 shields your legs from the sun
  • Kühl's Athletik fit is streamlined and clean without a bunch of extra fabric to get in your way or flap in the wind
  • Gusseted crotch won't restrict your movement when you need to scramble or climb
  • Articulated knees are designed to be most comfortable when you're actually on the move
  • Stealth zip-off system lets you convert these pants into shorts while giving the zippers a low-profile, barely visible look
  • Side zips help the pant legs slide easily on or off over your hiking boots
  • Five-pocket design with two zippered thigh pockets and a tool pocket gives you room to carry a few essentials

Def my new favorite pants!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These pants are comfortable and stylish enough to wear to work as I am today. They're also durable and practical enough to wear camping/hiking as I did all weekend. The fit is tremendous unless you favor a really loose full fit. Fabric has a little give which lets them be snug enough to be stylish. Fabric has a great feel and weight. Not too hot...not too cool....just right.

Hiking/travelling/working...these are my new favorite pants!

Kinda KUHL

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

The pants look great and feel good. You tell the craftsmanship is quality. I ordered the 32X32 and the short length come right to the top of my knee. (I'm 5'8" 155lbs) I usually wear 32" waist in all my pants and 31" in board shorts. These fit snug and would be perfect if they had a little more stretch to them. That is really the only draw back in my mind... they would be perfect with a little more stretch!

Very comfortable

Getting ready for a trip to the Patagonia region of Argentina... I've worn these a couple times and really like the comfort - I also like that the shorts are longer then my North Face convertible pants which I had previously used to trek Torres del Paine. This trip we are visiting Tierra del Fuego and have decided to use these pants instead for this trip.

I know they make the Liberators in a 30...

I know they make the Liberators in a 30 length for we shorties. Why don't you carry them in any other lengths than the 32" inseams?

The long and the short of it.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

My son in law has two pair of these and I had another brand. My daughter had told me how happy he was with his, so I bought a pair from Back Country due to them having the best price. We went to visit my daughter in Okinawa. We visited Shuri Castle and it wasn't extremely warm in the morning when we left. Half way through the day, I was starting to roast and just zipped to legs off...instant comfort. So, these are functional as probably any convertibles would be. The difference, and what makes these worth the money, is the quality. These pants are made from a high quality of fabric and the design is great and they don't look like convertibles. I had a concern the they might shrink, but they have not. The zippers can be tucked into little pockets to hide them. If I had any criticism it would be only that the front pockets feel a little shallow. That being said, I haven't had anything fall out of them, but I feel like I need to keep checking because I know they seem shallow. That wasn't too serious though because I just bought another pair in a different color.

comfort and style for sure but duribility suffers. Everytime i go out i end up sewing these suckers up when i get back.....ive had my pair for this past summer and i beat them up pretty good, they look like they are two years old...the cotton is a weakness, drys slow and(i have the light tan color) shows all kinds of stains....i wouldnt buy another pair

Great Hiking Pants

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I bought these pants mainly for a trip to Israel and because I knew I would use them in my adventures and I have. I wore them almost every day for a solid two weeks and hiked every day. They are very well to the size and fit really well, my favorite thing about the size is also the reason that I give them a four star, they are so nicely fitting that they prevent chaffing which is great for hiking and backpacking! The negative side to that is that they are a little snug when it comes to climbing but I climbed a couple mountains in these and I managed pretty well and it rocked but just a tiny bit tight. Great pants and recommend them!

Awesome

  • Fit: True to size

I love my shants. They provide so much versatility and utility to a pant. I recently wore these hiking to see how they were, and they performed beautifully for me. No rubbing or chafe issues. I like the zippers on the legs, as they are very discrete, not like many other zip offs out there. Very impressed.

Comfortable & cool, but short...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Let me clarify- I normally wear a 36X34, but they seemed long enough when I tried them on with flipflops. They do run long for a 32, but don't be fooled. Discovered they are too short with shoes and hiking boots. I'll wear them with hiking sandals and flipflops only. Not a fan of the flood look.
That said, they are very comfortable and feel more durable than the usual lightweight fishing pants of similar style. I think these will hold up better after time on trails and kayaking ( and maybe offer more mosquito protection).
I recently wore these fishing on a still and humid 95F evening. I would normally wear shorts, but gave these a try. I stayed cool by unzipping the shorts halfway around the back of the knees and by unzipping the bottoms while leaving the button snapped.
When I did unzip to shorts to load the boat, the legs removed quickly with no hassle or mess.
I'd recommend these to others- just find the appropriate length.

Very nice convertible pants

When travelling and camping I like convertibles for the convenience of getting two items for one. They're also sensible for shoulder seasons. That said - almost all of the ones I've owned in the last decade look only OK. I don't wear them as anything but technical items. These are style enough to break that trend. Great!

Kuhl Liberator Convertibles

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I ordered these Kuhl pants because I love convertibles, have three other pair and wanted to try something with a little more quality. My son-in-law has a pair of these and he said he really liked them, so I decided to give them a try. I wore them for the first time this past weekend. They were great. They fit well and appear to be very well made. They really don't have the look of most convertibles and the zipper pocket for the pant legs are a great idea. The only two things I found as cons are the front pockets are a little shallow. About an inch more depth would be perfect. The other thing is that I'd like to see odd sized lengths. I don't know if they make them in odd lengths but them were not available anywhere I looked. All-in-all, I like these a lot and may buy a different color. I'd recommend these to anyone looking for a pair of high quality convertible pants.
