Named for the tough-to-tackle peak in the Swiss Alps, the KUHL Men's Eiger Short combines heavy-duty construction with built-to-last comfort and functionality. A 12-inch inseam gets the KUHL Eigers to your knees, protecting you from rocks and such when you take a tumble, and cargo pockets carry enough supplies to last you a long hike.
Bottom Line: KUHL has you covered, at least down to the knees.
The Sidewinder Fit System for waist adjustment is worthless, it pops open every time i sit or bend, i ended up cutting them off and wearing a belt. The other issue was the mesh pockets, keys or anything else gets tangled or shreds the pockets, while it does lighten up the shorts, they are not swim trunks and need sturdier pockets. Otherwise they are great looking and seem to be made well.
I gotta say, I love these shorts. They are comfortable, flexible, breathe well, tough, and they dry real quick. Unlike some shorts from prAna that are this length, leg opens straight and don't taper smaller and don't look quite as goofy as some of the long shorts from other companies.
I totally agree. Prana used to produce larger sizes that I enjoyed because of the freedom and flexibility they allowed. As soon as I put these shorts on I knew I could lunge and stretch with no problems. And I am also wearing them now.

These are now my favorite "everything" shorts! Kuhl does a lot of very cool things to them like an inside security button as a backup to the fly. Mesh pockets and bomb proof material. They fit true to size, they dry extremely quickly but I didn't chaff when hiking in them wet for long periods of time while in and out of rivers. Another great product from a killer company born in Utah!
These shorts are awesome. Flat out the best pair I own. Unique cloth. Durable and breathable. Great fitting. I bought the Olive ones and really like the way they look.
Heavy weight cloth and really feel bomb proof. They seem to dry quick. The zipper hole could be longer as it is a bit uncomfortable to me for... well you know!
Durable, comfortable, breathable. Love these shorts, I use them for everything from biking to backpacking. One feature which is rare to find is they have a double-button (one plastic button and one clasp button) waist which makes the integrated belt pretty legit. Unlike the review below me, I have never had a problem with the plastic belt tighteners coming loose, even on hard mountain bike trips. Highly recommended!
Love these shorts! The inseam is perfect for my 6'4" height. I can't think of a single shortfall after many hiking and rock climbing outings. Kuhl makes top notch gear and these shorts are no exception. Buy them!!
The best thing to do is jump on "live chat" and ask those folks. They'll be able to look up if they even have any more on order, and if so they should be able to tell you roughly when they'll be in. Hope that helps.
Just discovered these Eiger Shorts. They used to come in Blue, Green & Brown. Seems they're closing these out unfortunately.?? Found "green' ones from Back Country. They wear great, no chaffing, dry quick. Only 'Brown' colors from 'Kuhl'. Looking for the 'Blue' ones. Would buy more.!!
These are some sweet shorts! They run a little more that the average pair of shorts, but buy some and you will see the light my friend. Well ventilated, spacious and lots o pockets. Also, you can tell they will last a long long tome when you feel the material. You definately can't go wrong with a pair or two of these babies.....and they come with a cool sticker and some inspirational words from your buddies at KUHL.
These shorts are really pretty awesome. They look good, and are made very well, as are all Kuhl products. The only problem I have is with the clamps on the side of the shorts that allow you to adjust the waist. I have several pairs of the Kuhl z-cargo shorts, and they have the same mechanism, except on the z-cargo the clamp is made from metal and works flawlessly. On the Eiger the clamp is made of plastic and comes undone VERY easily. I found my shorts dropping down often and had to use safety pins to lock the adjustable waste in place.
I got these shorts for my boyfriend about a week ago, and I don't think he's taken them off since (eww!). That means he loves them! He is 6'1" and 185 lbs, and I got him a large. They fit great, especially with the adjustable belted sides. The KUHL Eiger Short is really a great buy. Pair is with some of Kuhl's button-down shirts for the total mountain-guy look. HOT!
I have one pair that absolutely rocks! Perfect in every way. Then i ordered a second pair a year later and the sides were extended and who knows what else (i'll up load a pic later). The result was a funny looking second pair that just did not drape the same. I wish they wouldn't change the designs. They may still work for you but my finicky ass can't go with other cut. Maybe each batch of Eiger shorts are cut a little different and i should try again??
What makes these shorts, and all products from the waist down, from Kuhl so desirable is the front and rear rise measurements. The waist is low and the crotch gusset is high. The rise on so many other pants make me walk like a penguin. These allow me to walk like a human being! The funny thing is that there is still room in the waist, hips, and thighs for people with muscular legs to experience a range of motion and freedom that other garments do not or refuse to provide. Kuhl is the fit for me.
