The KUHL Burr Jacket dishes out a rugged style that works whether you are wearing it with jeans for a night out with the guys or rocking it over a dress shirt on your way to the office. If your office happens to be outside, this jacket will block cool fall breezes, plus the articulated sleeves won't restrict your movement.
Bottom Line: Looking good from the woods to the bar.
I have this jacket in Khaki. It's got a nice rugged qualty ot it and the articulated sleeves are a nice touch. Helps stop binding of whatever you're wearing underneath. I own a bunch of Kuhl products. Pants, shirts and jackets. Sure ... they have one of the coolest names ever but you also get the bitchin sticker with every Kuhl order. Seriously ... Kuhl products are built with quality to last. From the zippers to the stitching. Everything is cut in clean, classic lines but most important of all is they live up to their tag line "Born in the Mountains." You can see this in the detail and features of all their clothing.
This thing is amazing. Bought it here a year ago. It is one burly jacket. Very warm, but not to hot. Not good for layering. Wear a T-shirt or light weight long sleeve under it--you will still be toasty. Great for all around wear. Wore it out to the local brewery and got some sexy coments from some sexy ladies. Good lord Kuhl!....buy this jacket...get the digits.
Will the brown color fade significantly and absorb into the threads running along the seams?
I just received this jacket having never seen it in real life. I ordered the brown expecting a lighter shade like in the picture with the threads to be the same color. Mine is a very dark olive drab brownish color with loud, contrasting off white threads running along all the seams. The label says the color is brown and there's a tag mentioning a special dyeing process. I dont like the colors or the loud "euro" styling with the threads as it is now. Is this jacket designed to fade when it is washed and color absorbed into the threads to reduce contrast? the picture makes it look a solid brown but mine looks a dark olive drab brown with white lines running everywhere
kbowen271123376, Thanks for your question. Many of the KUHL garments feature a petina dye, that gives you that worn look once you have washed it. This is a common feature in their pants. Since the Burr jacket is cotton I would expect a worn finish once you have washed the jacket, and over time. If you are not enthusiastic about that, Backcountry has an outstanding return policy. I hope this is helpful for you.

I got this coat... two years ago? I usually wear a medium in shirts and jackets, but I'm practically swimming in the thing. That's not terrible, because I can wear a hoodie underneath. I figure I should just exchange it for a small, but I haven't done that yet. I also don't think it's as warm as everyone says, but that also could be because it's so large. It's still only a thin layer of fleece inside, though. But, it's VERY well constructed, no frayed thread or gaping seams after quite a while. I used it a lot last winter with several layers underneath. Overall, I'm not sure it was worth the $100, but it's not a bad jacket.
First off, the service from backcountry was excellent. I initially bought a small and exchanged it for a medium, and their exchange policy was very good and fast.
The jacket is very nicely made, and has some nice details. The cotton weave is a bit unique, not exactly denim though not canvas either. I like the contrast stitching on the brown jacket - it's a nice detail that reflects quality (because if the stitching is a bit off it will be very noticeable). Overall, the jacket is fairly lightweight. It has what I consider a 'medium weight t-shirt' lining in the body, with satin-type material only in the sleeves.
The zippers are nice quality, and work smoothly. I also like the fact that there aren't huge logos on this jacket - the styling speaks for itself.
I think this jacket could benefit from gussets in the sleeves/shoulders. The small fit my body fairly well, but the jacket bound up when I raised my arms. The medium is better when I raise my arms, but is a little loose in the body. I think the sizing recommendations are accurate.
I bought this jacket without trying it on. I know that Backcountry has a great return policy so I went for it... and am glad I did.
I have been looking for a canvas style jacket for a while, but haven't been too impressed. It seems that there's always some funky pocket, lame elastic waist band, a bad color or weird collar, or something I didn't like about everything I saw.
This jacket is the answer to my quest for a cool canvas style jacket. It is equally useful for sitting around the campfire, to a casual night out in the city. VERY comfortable and stylish. I got the brown. There was a fellow on this site that complained about the brightness of the stitching, but I don't see any problems with it. In fact, it only adds to the coolness of the jacket.
Note: i am a fairly slim guy, 5"10" around 170. I got size large and it fits perfectly. However, if you are a bit larger in the mid section, this jacket may be tight.
Overall: very cool jacket... fit's great, you'll get compliments wearing it, nice fabric and workmanship, by far my favorite casual jacket. you can't go wrong with this piece.
I've worn this jacket two three times so far. I like the styling a lot. The front chest pocket is very nice. I like that the sleeves are lined too. I think for weather in the 30's to 40's this jacket is ideal. The construction is solid.
It has a really cool cut to it, the photo doesn't do it justice. It's like a motorcycle jacket. Very comfortable too.
I've had mine for about a year and a half and I use it all the time for everything and its still like new. It's surprisingly warm in cooler temperatures which I didn't expect and material and sewing quality is excellent.
This is a very versatile jacket. It works well over a pretty good range of temperatures. Wear it over a t-shirt and you can keep it on inside. Wear it over a long-sleeve shirt and you will stay warm into the 40s, but you will have to take it off inside. Cut a little small (and short) so make sure to go up a size if you are borderline. Looks great, gotten several compliments.
