Description

A rack for every bike.

If you’re ferrying around different bikes all the time, the Kuat NV 2 Bike Rack is just the ticket. This tray-style rack accommodates everything short of a full-on fatbike, and doesn’t require straight top tubes. On top of that, with 13 inches between the two trays, those brake lever-to-saddle gouges are a thing of the past.

  • Two versions: one to fit two-inch hitch receivers, and one to fit 1.25-inch receivers
  • Folds up to reduce profile when not in use
  • Built-in repair stand
  • Integrated cable lock
  • Extensions to add two more bikes are available separately

This thing is pretty!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rack is a pure work of art. The quality of craftsmanship is far above the rest. This rack is solid and just plain works. I love the ability to tighten the receiver into the hitch to take the play out, which uses a great design to do so. It also comes with the add on to turn it into a bike stand which was really nice. It also comes with a hitch lock, and bike lock. The only thing I would improve is to make it so you can lock the front wheel retention clamp because I've heard of a few bikes being stolen off cars by the cable simply being cut with bolt cutters. Cables just aren't as secure as maybe they were so new measures need to be taken to add more security. Very pleased with my choice.

Shoulda done this a long time ago

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Finally broke down and went with the NV after using Yakima hitch-mount "top-tube hanger style" racks for the last ten years. Between new bike frame designs (and adapters running from headset to seat tube) and seeing all these darn things (Kuat NV racks) ubiquitously around town I bit the bullet. Used it both Saturday and Sunday this weekend for one short (20 mile) trip and one longer (65 on road and 10 on gravel) road trip hauling two mountain bikes. Should have done so a long time ago. Super solid 2" mount on my Outback and bikes barely twitch even on dirt & gravel roads. Plus putting on and taking off the bikes is super easy. I'm sold and ain't going back!

the. best.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

we needed a hitch-mount for adult road and mountain bikes and for our girls' 20" bikes. this does the trick; fully adjustable and easy to use. it does make my back-up camera beep incessantly when in reverse but whatever. and it's great looking. we got the black and chrome - low profile and sleek. thanks Pete! happy riders.

The 1.25" on Subaru Impreza.... Flawless

The 1.25" on Subaru Impreza.... Flawless

I have short person issues, and a roof rack would still take a considerable amount of time and effort for me to get a bike locked and loaded. To avoid that daily struggle, I chose to go with the ever-popular NV2 rack, and install a 1 1/4" hitch to my 2010 Subaru Impreza.

This rack was easier to build than I expected, especially after watching the video on their website (highly recommend watching that video!!). Plus, there is no rattling involved like their competitors racks that I've used in the past.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase, and would highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for the best hitch rack in the bizz. Not to mention my new Juliana Furtado (nicknamed "The Bumblebee") compliments it very well!

Like my girl Beyonce said, "We flawless, ladies tell 'em!" - So here I am tellin you, step up your game and get the NV2!

Pleased

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Easy loading and unloading. Flawless operation. Easy flip up/down. Fits my son's 24" mtn bike. Would be nice to have an easy to swap out 24" adapter though - 3 bolts to take it on/off. Built in lock takes some finagling to make it reach with 2 full size bikes but that's by design.

I have the NV Core and two bikes cannot fit on this rack without hitting each other. Has anybody experienced this problem with the NV 2? I want to replace the NV Core with the NV 2 unless they have the same issue.

Responded on

as long as you are not running incredibly wide bars, wider than even some of the new, wider models, the NV has a best in class 13" between trays. Bar width should not be a problem

Perfect for EVERY TRIP

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bike rack is extremely well-built. A good friend of mine has a Yakima bike rack, and it has served him very well, but in comparison, the Kuat is much lighter, and the moving parts move much more freely. The construction of the rack is flawless, and seems like it will be very resistant to weather erosion. The fact that the bike lock is integrated into the rack itself was definitely a huge selling point for me. No fumbling with a tandem lock, no rusted parts that are unable to move. Another huge selling point is the rack has a bike stand on the back of it, which allows you to perform repairs or tunes right at the trailhead, on a hanging style stand. Kuat nailed it with this one. I will definitely be recommending this product to my friends in Colorado!

This photo shows the clearance between my 765mm bars and the Snugtop SuperSport shell that I have on my Toyota Tacoma. My DH bike with 800mm bars fits too.

Great product

Easy to use, looks great, fits my kid's 24" bike also.

Nice Rack!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a great piece of equipment. It is easy to mount your bikes safely and securely. I like to hit the post ride pub and I no longer need to worry if the rack is locked to the hitch or if I packed a lock to lock the bikes to the rack. All taken care of with the Kuat! Easy to assemble as well! Great product.

Well Built - w/Considerable Design Flaw

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

In terms of build quality this thing is solid....one considerable problem though...I have a toyota tacoma and purchased this with the intent of getting a canopy, however; the handlebars on every mt bike I have put on the inside tray closest to the back of the truck overhang the tailgate. If/when I get a canopy the inside tray will be useless for mt bikes since the handle bars will hit the rear window. I don't see this being an issue for road bikes but considering I mt bike most of the time this is a pretty serious problem...Not sure if anyone else has run into this issue or if this is potentially a random fabrication issue?

Responded on

Not an issue with my Tacoma and camper shell. Pretty much all shells curve towards the cab. See the picture I posted on this page -- my bike has 765mm bars and fits with plenty of room between itself and the camper.

Tough, solid and sleek

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This thing is amazing!
- Easy to set up and use
- Totally solid with no bike movement once secured
- No rub anywhere on the bikes
- Simple secure locking system with the perfect amount of slack
- Folds up sleekly with no bikes on it, and folds down far enough to let an SUV tailgate open and close
- Super sharp looking

I was deciding between the NV2, Yakima's Hold Up and North Shore Racks NS4. I am SO glad I went with the Kuat. I buy and use a lot of outdoor gear, and this is one of the most thoughtfully designed and solidly built products I've come across in a long time. Completely worth the money.

Tough, solid and sleek

I'm looking to put a hitch on my 2012 Mazda 3 sedan to transport bikes for triathlons. Does anyone have any experience with this rack on a sedan?

Responded on

It may be a bit low to the ground, but will work fine, total weight of the rack assembled is around 47lbs. Check out this fit guide in case you have questions about dimensions in relation to the size of your sedan - http://kuatracks.com/workspace/media/uploads/product-guides/fit-guides/nv-fit-guide-with-ball-cam.pdf

Does it accept road bikes too?

I have a van with a 2 inch hitch and a car with a 1.25 inch hitch. If I purchase a Kuat NV 2 Bike Rack for a 2 inch hitch fro the Van is there an adapter available to adapt this down to the 1.25 inch hitch so that I can use this on the car also?

Responded on

There is not an adapter available for the NV, in order to keep its integrity and support the rack and weight of bikes it needs to stay specific for 2" and specific for 1.25". The Sherpa rack does use an adapter though!

What is the size of the box that the KUAT NV2 is shipped?

Quality Rack

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought the Kuat NV2 bike rack primarily because of the ability to expand its capacity and for the repair stand built into the end of the frame. I know there are other racks that don't cost as much that will expand also, but I haven't found any other rack with the repair stand. The stand is not something you use all the time but when you need it it's PRICELESS !!! To me that alone was worth the extra money and I could not be happier with this rack. I routinely carry a pair of 29er mt. bikes and the NV2 keeps them secure at highway speed and loading and unloading is quick and easy. There is some assembly with this rack but it took no time at all and was very straight forward. Don't let the price scare you away from this rack, you get what you pay for.

Great rack, not for city living

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The rack is great. Easy on, easy off. Secure. Keeps gas mileage high. Work station is gimicky and not wonderful, but it's better than not having one. The locking cable could be longer... you really have to work to get it through tires and bike frames.

The challenge is storing this thing when you're not using it... if you have a garage, basement or barn... you can scoff at this, but living in an apartment in the city it takes up a quarter of the bedroom.

The Best!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Sturdy, reliable, and easy to use. Hands down the toughest bike rack I have owned. Very easy to load bikes, can easily tilt down rack while getting in the back of the truck topper w/o unloading bikes, and easy to store upright when not in use. On the go work stand is also a major plus when on the road! Highly recommend this Kuat!
