Description

Protect yourself from the river's hazards.

The Kokatat Ronin Personal Flotation Device includes full-length spinal protection and padded shoulders to help you make it through a nasty swim in a rocky river. Despite the added protection, the Ronin Personal Flotation Device still has a low-profile cut that works well for anything from rafting to creek boating to sea kayaking. Kokatat's internal grip panel and offset front-entry design create a snug fit that won't ride up when you're in the water.

Still here to tell about it

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Swam a class IV with a dislocated shoulder wearing this PFD. I'm 6'3" 240# and this vest (L/XL) did a great job. It may not be the most fashionable but it works well, god forbid you wear last years colors. I stash my truck keys, whistle, single use CPR mask, cravat, and trauma shears in the front pockets with no issues or added bulk.

It may not be a rescue vest but at this price point I'm a huge fan.

Great fit to provide ease of movement in any conditions!

Kokatat Ronin

Very pleased so far! Gives great freedom of movement while paddling and doesn't ride up. Also doesn't interfere with my backrest in my kayaks and very comfortable when I'm in my canoe.

Seems to be well built and a quailty purchase.

Excellent fit, I'm 5'-8" 160# got the s/m, doesn't ride up, great freedom of movement, you hardly know you have it on, only wish I'd bought it sooner

Responded on

Hey- I am 5'10.5 and 150 pounds but very thin... i prefer smaller lifejackets because I sail and don't want them moving around...

Would you suggest S/M or L/XL?

Bulky

While I liked the concept, the vest is bulky if you are on the smaller side. Used a S/M on the Grand and when the muddy water kicked in it was next to impossible to zip-probably not a design flaw, but still. Zipping the vest is a challenge at best since the foam in front ovelaps the zipper making it hard to line up and zip. Once it is zipped it is great-comfortable and feels really beefy and great flotation. If you are a larger person these issues won't matter but if you are smaller I would look to the Orbit Tour maybe or MsFit.

Nice vest

The Ronin fits great and allows for excellent mobility while paddling. The fit is a little bulky if you're standing up with it on, but once you're settled into your boat it's great. The strap adjustments are easy to make and the front pocket will hold an unexpectedly large volume of whatever you want to keep close at hand. I haven't gone over since I've owned it, but I'll comment on the in the water fit after I do.
