    Double-duty junglewear.

Hiking through the jungle is hot and steamy work, but there are enough spiky, sharp, and stingy things that covering up with Kuhl's Konta 11in Women's Short is a good idea. The Konta is made with a super lightweight and stretchy cotton blend, designed specially for hot and humid environments, and is cut below the knee for extra coverage when you need it. When you don't, the cuffs roll up and secure at the knee with a button tab, and the contoured KuhlKurve waist and internal drawcord make sure the Kontra rides comfortably when you're swinging machetes or climbing up giant jungle vines.

    • Internal drawcord

    practical (long) shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

Size seems to match the size chart although the Carbon (dark gray) fit looser than the sage. Fluke? Different patterns in different factories? - dunno. I wore them around the neighborhood and the fabric eased up quite a bit. So, don't immediately give up if they're a bit snug (remember that awesome Backcountry return policy).

I wore these (the looser Carbon pair) hiking with a 25# pack in 80F weather. The waist band was comfortable under the pack and they weren't too hot. They got wet when I poured water down my back but they dried quickly. The pockets are reasonably useful (the gusseted cargo pockets fit a large phone and it's not uncomfortable to walk since they're on the thigh). Button back pockets... not so great for a phone, but good enough for a wallet.

Unroll them for extra knee coverage, roll them up over the tabs if you want to wear them shorted than intended.

TIP: instead of tying the drawstring, pull the string snug, then tie a bulky easily released Eastland knot (the one seen on boat shoe laces) to take up the slack on each side... now your shorts are snug but you can escape quickly if nature calls!

UPDATE: wore these for 5 days hiking in the Tetons. Cool, comfy, sturdy. Really liked them! But they do ease up nearly a full size...

    Perfect fit!

Bought these for my wife who says, "These are the shorts I've been looking for my whole adult life. I've always had trouble finding shorts that are comfortable and the right length. From the second I pulled them on, I felt that they were made for me. I am short (5'1", 112 lbs) but don't like super short shorts. These are the answer."

    My de facto summer pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 14

Being on the shorter side of life, these "shorts" fit me like capris...approx. 5-6" below the knee. When rolled up and buttoned they convert to perfect-length shorts for biking, hiking, and urban adventures with my pup. I own four pairs of the Konta 11" style and can say the only issue I've encountered thus fair is the fabric wears out a lot more quickly than other styles. Depending on how often you wear & wash, you might be replacing them annually like me.
