Kelty makes their Yellowstone 6 tent to give you and your crew a good night's sleep. This easy-to-pitch tent has enough floor space to sleep six. Kelty's clip and sleeve construction makes setting up camp quick for this freestanding tent. Personnel belongings can be kept in the internal storage pockets while gear loft loops hold onto larger items. Everyone will get plenty of fresh air with the mesh ceiling panels and side-wall vents that also help to regulate temperature. An easily installed rainfly is included for chilly and damp nights.

Bottom Line: This is like bringing the family room to the woods.

Talk shop with all the gear freaks out there: ask 'em questions, upload/browse photos, and give your 2¢.

The fly is not illustrated for the Kelty Yellowstone 6 Tent. Does the fly extend to the ground or only over a portion of the tent?

The fly does extend to the ground. You can find a photo of it here:

Perfect for a Family of Five

Kelty fills the niche for families looking for quality, affordable shelters. The Yellowstone 6 is no different. The five of us fit nicely with all of our bedding, aand the walls were plenty steep and high enough to fit a full-sized cot. Its easy enough to assemble that we let our 3 boys (all under age 12) set it up while we get the rest of the camp in order. We have used the Kelty in harsh desert and mountain environments without any noticable weaknesses. I highly recommend this tent for car camping families.

Pretty Good Tent For the Price

By:
June 15, 2009

I've sworn by Kelty tents since I was a boy scout a long time ago and this one is no different. We bought this tent to replace a Kelty Gunnison 2, which was an awesome tent, but we needed more room for when we take the nieces camping with us. We've only used this tent for a 3 day trip to the woods so far and have been as pleased as can be. We arrived to the camp late, in pitch black conditions with a headlamp, the setup took me and a buddy about 15 minutes. It kept us dry during a brief downpour one night, and provided excellent ventilation. I noticed that the zipper gets stuck if you're not paying attention, but that's the only fault I noticed. This tent is great for car camping and wooded adventures alike!

I was reading the tech specs on this tent. It says that it doesn't have stakes. Is this true???? How can you have a tent without stakes?? What keeps it from blowing away??

It is a freestanding tent, so you don't really need stakes for most situations. If you plan to use it in some pretty nasty winds, you can get some at any outdoor store and pack them along just in case of a bad wind storm.

Seems strange to me that a manufacturer would sell a tent without stakes. Some Marmot tents even include the footprint!

Great for a rookie like me

I got the Kelty yellowstone 6 because of the good reviews that said it was easy to put up.
Everone was right. It was easy even my first time out and this little puppy held up to the wind, the rain, and even my kids.
THe zipper on the door gets stuck, but besides that it is a great tent.
Roomy enough for my big air mattress, and the two kids. Even without the mattress sleeping 6 would be real tight.

How does this compare to the Eureka Copper Canyon 10? I'm looking for a Christmas gift for my daughter and family and not being a camper I'm having a hard time making a decision---just relying on recommendations. I know they want easy set-up and bathroom floor but that's all

Sara, I own a Eureka! Copper Canyon and believe this would be a better choice for family camping. I am 6' 2" and can stand up anywhere in the tent because of the vertical sidewalls. This is also a quality tent. Two people can set it up with ease. I set mine up by myself.

After much debate I had a friend recommened a kelty yellowstone tent, who loves their 6 person. I purchased the same 6 person yellowstone. I knew I needed a quick set up tent that was durable. I camp on the Lake Superior Shoreline in Mich. This week we had different weather every day. Very windy, Stormey, Hot and cold, we even had winter coats one morning. anyway I found kelty to stand up to the reputation the one night the tent was actually bending form the gale and it held very well. It was easily to take down, clean and put away. I will be looking for a screen house for next year. p.s. backcountry's customer service and sales rep's were excellant to deal with. thanks, emily vanwassehnova. Michigan

I am looking at purchasing either the Kelty yellowstone 6 or the Kelty Merced 6 Tent. Any ideas, Pros & Cons?

This is a great car camping tent, very durable, & weatherproof. It also has a lot of floor space. The Merced has the same qualities. It's a toss to me.
