The Kelty Yellowstone 4 is an easy to set-up economical 3-season tent for your family that's built to last. While setting up this free-standing tent isn't quite as simple as flipping a switch, the pole clips are nearly as quick when attaching them to the two Fiberglass poles. The design is roomy, creating a comfortable living space to stretch out in after a long day of hiking. The mesh ceiling works with the side vents to provide stellar ventilation. Taped seams and a bathtub floor mean you'll stay dry even if your campsite is doing a convincing lake impression.
Bottom Line: A portable room with a view for the whole family.
Very easy to put up. Keep us dry in the rain. We did get a bit wet through the floor. Recommend buying a floor pad. You get what you paid for with this product!!! I think this baby will last a few seasons!
This tent is really roomy and was awesome the first time we used it for a weekend climbing trip at the New River Gorge. It kept us dry in the rain (no wind that trip) and had plenty of room for my wife and I, and a dog crate for our coonhound. Then, we took it Moab and there were medium strength winds that just demolished the tent. I had guyed out the entire tent and fly and still, the thing blew up in winds that should not have been the end of any decent tent. So, we returned it and are sad because we had liked it so well on our first trip.

My wife and my two dogs (kids) took the Yellowstone 4 out to the middle of Utah's West desert, where it's really dusty and our dogs get them self's extremely dirty. In our old tent there was almost no room for the dogs to sleep, with out you getting super dirty as well. But not with the Kelty Yellowstone 4 Tent 4-Person, there is plenty of room in there for both my wife, our two dogs and I, with out getting our sleeping bags super dirty from the dogs sleeping right next to us. It's like the dogs have their own room, instead of being cramped in a small tent, they are now able to sprawl out. Super Easy to "pitch" and has a ton of head room. If your interested in buying this tent, I'd recommend the foot print (SKU= KEL0291) So in short, great tent for you and your dogs, or I guess if you have kids this will also be a great tent. Maybe they should consider changing the name to "Yellowstone 4 Tent 2-Person 2 dogs" But just keep in mind, it's not just for humans, anymore.
I have always stood by Kelty tents and after this summer's use I will continue to support them. This tent kept us dry in one of Yellowstone's fiercest thunderstorms. It hailed, rained, and almost flooded through our campsite. I couldn't believe it survived the hail storm. It didn't get a single rip or tear. There is plenty of ventilation through the screens. It was very easy to set up and tear down. I would recommend getting the footprint for it. It is large enough for a full size air mattress and a couple duffle bags.
I've also looked at the Sierra Sirius 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season tent and realize the Sierra is a much better tent for backpacking, but I wanted something that would fit 3 adults comfortably.
i love this tent. it is super easy to set up and take down. I also bought the foot print for it and it works great. it is really worth the extra money to get this tent.
I bought the Kelty Yellowstone and enjoyed it. It is not a $400 North Face tent by any means...but it is alot better than what you will find at Walmart or something like that. I stayed in it with my wife and 100 pound dog and we had plenty of room. We even blew up a full size mattress inside and there was still plenty of room on the sides for gear and our dog. Overall...good tent.
Nope, the Yellowstone just has one door now. I've used the older version with the 2 doors as well and I'm kind of sad that the newer versions do not have that feature.
Used this tent as a base camp tent in the BWCAW. Fine in the light rain. Easy to put up . There are tents of this size on the web for half the price, but the quality of this KELTY justifies the price.
This was our first camping trip ever. My son (14) and I spent two nights in the Yellowstone Tent. We arrived at the campsite at dusk so we were very impressed when the tent setup turned out to be very quick and easy. We did not have as much luck with cooking over a campfire but at least we slept comfortably.
looking at the picture-i see there are 2 mesh panels on the top--what is on the opposite side of the tent from the door to the tent-is it fabric or more mesh?
The tent was very easy to set up and comfortable to stay in. However, after less than a month of use, the cords in the poles started to break. Kelty sent us used replacement poles that were in worse shape than ours were. If Kelty works out the problems with the poles, it could be a good tent but it's not now.
This tent was easily set up and was roomy enough to sleep two very comfortably. Ease of disassembly was also appreciated. This is a very nice tent and will see lots of use.
I used it for the 1st time last weekend. It was one of the hottest weekends we had with humidity to match! The zipper got stuck, took us over 30 minutes to get it unstuck, but it got stuck in the covering over the zipper and ended up ripping a hole in the covering. I settled for that over not having the zipper work. This happened about 4 hours into use.
The only other thing I have to say is there are not enough windows for ventilation as it was again a miserably hot/humid weekend and no air movement, but even if there was you would not have felt it as there is only 1 small window, and you can't leave the door open as it is a solid close.
For the money, I feel it was a big let down. I would return it if we hadn't made the hole in getting the zipper to work again.
This is a great tent! Its cheap, it goes up VERY quickly and easily, and is surprisingly very roomy with a lot of head room. Im personally extremely pleased by its quality, especially when you consider how cheap it is!
A great tent! Set up is easy and takes about 5 minutes and taking it down is just as easy. It did rain on us so we found out that the tent is very water proof. Water never touched us. Ventilation is great. Its a 3-season tent but its not ideal for late fall when the temperature dips. Finally, a minor set back, it takes a bit of time to get used to the zipper as it does get caught on the taped seams. But once you get the technique down, you're fine. Overall, a great tent.
The tent was fine. The instructions need a lot of work. I'm new to dome tents and rainflies. There was no mention of how or why or where to use the guyout lines. The tent itself did well and stood its ground in a night with 50mph wind gusts. Four person is a stretch. Three maybe, two comfortably.
I bought this tent for a trip to Seneca Rocks for a week of climbing. The first couple nights got fairly cold, mid-40s, the next few days was rain, and the last night it got down to 37. Nearly everyday was very windy as well, but this tent served its purpose and did much more than I expected. It was very comfortable, very dry, and kept heat well or vented well for the nice weather. This tent would sleep 2 very comfortably with gear/cooler/blow up chairs/whatever. If 3 people needed shelter, it wouldn't be bad then either, but 4 people is quite a stretch.
