Is there a reason this pack weighs 1lb 6oz., while most other fanny packs are 4-9oz.? Looking for a gift for a ultra-light backpacker.

Its actually just 6oz.
You could get your friend this or a silicon nylon tarp or an alcohol stove.
The stoves can be made your self from a soda can or you can buy one off a couple guys on ebay for like $7. I've had one for years that still works great. Fantastic cheap gift.

nothing - and nothing did - it does what it says and I am not taking it downtown (or anywhere except to walk my dogs) - for that its perfect - keys, doggy-pooh bags, doggy treats, hair bands (for me) and away I go. great if you don't have lots of pockets - which I often don't

The strap is about 50" around fully extended. I'm 6'5" and tried our sample out as sling and it would definitely work. Hope that helps...
