The sunshade is fabulous. We love the light colors, design, and durability. We purchased 2, thinking the coverage area wouldn't be as large as it actually turned out to be. One was enough to cover a space large enough for several adults and dogs to freely move about under the shade for escape from the sun. Love it! Oh, and as with anything you stake to the ground, depending on the density of the ground, you may need to invest in different stakes. The stakes that come with it definitely won't work as intended in sand, but works well in dense dirt.
Bought the large and never looked back

- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This thing is big enough for 5 adults to stretch out with room to spare. The stakes in the kit are meant for grass, I had to buy different stakes but how many trucks come factory with great off road tires? I'll use this thing until the weather does it's thing to it and I'll buy it again, if all things remain the same!

We bought this to have it on a beach so that our younger kids could sit under it. The pegs did not hold well in the sand with about a 10 mile an hour wind and the 3 openings were not that far from the ground. Therefore, it was awkward to sit under and therefore nobody did.

I got one of the large sunshades 5 or 6 years ago. I go camping every summer to fly model FreeFlight planes at the National Championship in Muncie, Indiana. I wanted a shelter that would allow me to work on repairs, and be easy to set up and take down.
It was a little tricky putting it up solo the first time, but I have it mastered now. Great sun protection.
However, the best strength of this thing is it's ability to stand up and endure the thunderstorms that seem to roar through every summer. Because of it's flexibility, it has withstood tremendous winds that wrecked all the other designs. I have seen it beaten down almost flat, and it pops right back up.
Two years ago, out of the eight tents and shelters at our part of the field, I had the only shelter and tent still standing after one of the Indiana monsters roared through.
I do rig extra guy lines at all points on both shelter and tent. ( I got an expedition tent after my first one was wrecked by just such a storm)
The Kelty, however, is box stock, and it takes a beating.
If you think you may have storms, rig some extra lines, and lower the structure so that it has less wind resistance. Easy to do on this fine product.

We're heading to the Florida gulf for a windy beach vacation and need some sun shelter. I've heard Kelty's that Kelty Cabana can be a bit hot so I'm interested in this sunshade.....will it hold up to the wind on the beach

The key to this or any other tent/shade on the windy beach is staking it out properly, you will want to get at least 6 sand stakes I would suggest 10 just in case. One for each pole as well as at least one guy out point on each pole as well.
Any of these will work great.

All the Shade You Need

Large provides plenty of coverage for an afternoon nap in the desert.
Durability seems on par with similar products I've used, but setup takes a little getting used to. Enlist a friend the first time you crack this shade open, you're going to need a spare hand.
Will review further once I've had more time to catch up on some Z's under this beauty.

Is that the large or the medium that is shown in the video?

Alittle hard to set up solo at first, but easy to do once you've done it a time or two and get to know the the procedure. The wall is a plus to the Kelty Sunshade unit, it provides more shade coverage and some wind protection. Poles seem to be some what durable, only time and usage will tell....

Kelty Sunshade: What are the tabs for I see being pulled on. I did do a solo set-up by myself and you are right the last pole does take some effort but it can be done. I understand the width and Height adjustment, but what are the tabs for?

The tabs can give you something to grab on to help set the pole in its sleeve. They also act as tie-down points for extra lines & stability.

There were NO instructions on how to lay out the poles or how to adjust height-width on the shade tent. Set up is alittle hard for one person and moving the tent around by one person can be some what difficult.. As for everything else on the shade-tent only time and use will tell.
great product

Does this sunshade work well for the beach (e.g., wind, securing in the sand)? Thanks!

Hey Paul,
Absolutely perfect for the beach. Great for a couple of chairs and a cooler. Besides stakes at the corners, you'll see in the picture a series of orange triangles with a bit of black at the end for attaching guy lines when it's windy.
