great bag

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

My husband has been using this backpack everyday for years. Granted he uses it to tote his workout gear, lunch, books for work, etc rather than mountain hiking daily but its lasted a long time. He's a big guy too, so he wanted something big and comfortable. When we lived in NYC he walked a couple of miles a day with it and loved it. Definitely recommend. I'm actually back on backcountry website looking to buy the same exact one as a replacement since its looking a little shabby after 5 years of daily use. In fact, it still works fine except the side pockets are now ripped (he crams a lot of stuff in them so they get plenty of use) and is kind of stained now since he has the light brown one.

Big and attractive, not that comfortable

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Big, relatively good-looking bag with well-designed pockets.

I returned the bag after using it constantly for a bit over a week because of my dislike of the straps and my concern with the hardware in general. I was not a fan of the straps, which I felt were too narrow (especially given the size of the bag) and sat too far out on my shoulders to be comfortable. That could be an issue of body size/shape/personal taste, but I was also a bit skeptical of the hardware. Frankly, it doesn't seem like it would last that long. The plastic bits (clips and strap adjusters) are all on the small and thin side, and the zippers felt cheap right from the start. Again, I could be wrong-it's been a while since I've bought a bag, and it's quite possible that Kelty has mastered the art of making small, durable plastic hardware.

I just needed a bag I could love, and this wasn't it. Backcountry, as usual, has been wonderful.
