Decent Carrier - Good Value for Price

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

If you are on a budget, this is a good carrier. We borrowed one on a weekend trip and used it with our 20 lb one year old. There is no additional storage, so for backpacking you would need to either bring a pack animal or plan VERY carefully. For every day, it is perfectly functional. We have an Osprey Poco Premium for backpacking, which we always recommend, and an Ergo Baby Performance Carrier for everyday. I prefer the Ergo to the Kelty because it is so much more compact and easy to leave in the car, carry around a store, etc when not in use. The Kelty is trying to straddle both needs but doesn't do a great job of either. The only advantage this has to me over the Ergo is that the child is separated from you, so you both are cooler. If you wanted a pack only for hiking/day trips in hot weather, this might be the one for you. Otherwise, I would think carefully about how it would be used before investing the money, because you can get a more versatile Ergo for slightly less!

Can this carrier be folded? and how?

Can this carrier be folded? and how?

It doesn't fold, but the legs will pull in for a somewhat flatter storage profile.

You can also loosen some straps that will help the cockpit area collapse somewhat as well. It is important to tighten these before use though.
