If, to you, a real weekend vacation is a trail in the clouds with someone special, then you’ll dig the front-loading Kelty Lakota Backpack. Even if the mountain vistas are choked with low clouds, you will rejoice with quick miles over rocky gaps and summits, thanks to the moisture-wicking fabric, padding, and fully adjustable suspension.

  • Top and front loading for easy main compartment access to lunch or a quick weight adjustment
  • LightBeam aluminum stay distributes the weight evenly for the long haul
  • Padded back panel, waist-belt, and shoulder straps are ventilated to keep you cool on the inclines
  • Dual-density foam waist-belt (removable) transfers the load to your legs so you can go the distance without the sore back
  • Side and top compression straps and spindrift collar mean you can securely fit all your necessary gear in the Lakota without leaving anything at home
  • Sternum strap anchors the pack to your shoulders to battle the rugged, open trail

Bottom Line: Every mile holds a thousand memories, so get out.

No, the lid does not have the ability to un-attach from it's 2 points of contact by the shoulder straps.

Impressive pack

So far, an awesome pack. I haven't used it on a long backpacking trip yet (I will in the next month or two) but so far I've tested it on a few short hikes packed down with a bunch of stuff to see if it holds up well. Overall, I'm pretty impressed. Sleek, comfortable, and I got mine in that nice forest green color so it looks good too. My only gripe so far with the pack is that it doesn't have more external pockets. That might just be me being picky, though, because overall this pack is a great buy. I'll definitely edit this review and make it more detailed once I take it out on the trail for a few days.

Great Value

For $145, this is quite a deal.

Pros: 4000 cubic inches is great for weekend warriors who want to stash climbing gear and a few changes of clothes. I'm personally a huge fan of gear loops and daisy chains: the Lakota has several, not to mention a heavy duty one that can double as a suitcase strap. This pack is built heavy-duty and has plenty of padding to go easy on your back and hips. A single frame up the back mirrors the natural movement of the spine so you don't feel like you're putting on a titanium jetpack (although I guess that could be cool). Intuitive buckles and tighten-down straps.

Cons: I'm struggling here. That's a good thing.

Great pack! Really happy with it so far.

If I had to check this bag on an international flight, anyone

If I had to check this bag on an international flight, anyone know if the frame will hold up? Im worried about the bag getting beat up and luggage getting stacked on top. I know their is that single aluminum base down the middle of the bag. Im worried if this gets bent the bag is useless.. Any thoughts would be great!!

The frame won't bend in transit. I'd look into getting a pack cover of some sort to keep the straps from getting hung up in conveyor belts and protect it from getting dragged around. It can be as simple as a giant surplus storage bag with a drawstring. This will also make your pack look a little less appealing to someone with sticky fingers. Hope this helps.

Awesome Pack!

I just used this pack for the first time this weekend and I loved it! It was everything I was looking for in a pack. It is just the right size for a long weekend trip. I tend to over pack at times too, and I had plenty of room for everything I needed. Just wish it had a rain cover.

The hydration sleeve can fit a 3 liter (100oz) reservoir, but the smaller reservoirs fit fine as well.
