Anyone who claims kids are light because they're small is a lying swine. The Kelty Journey Kid Carrier acknowledges that if you had this much weight in a normal backpack it'd be considered a heavy load. Serious suspension with molded and padded everything and a dual-density waistbelt looks like it came off a serious expedition pack (it did). This particular heavy load likes to squirm though, so load lifter straps give your "little" one some comfortable suspension of her own, and toy loops provide back-up entertainment when the scenery isn't doing it. The Journey includes a removable kid pack so nothing gets left behind. The cockpit seat pad is removable and washable, not that we're implying junior isn't perfectly clean, but just in case.
Bottom Line: Don't forget the cardiovascular and strength benefits of carrying kids around.

We got this pack for Christmas and have taken our 6 month old out in it several times. Once we went for a snowshoe hike, and we have also been out for a few walks around town. She loves it and is very comfortable and supported. It is also a very comfy ride for the parents. I highly recommend this! Can't wait to use it this summer for hikes.

I've had the backpack for 2 years now and loved it. Great opportunity to spend some quality time with your kids and tote them around. Straps are comfortable for the person carrying the load and the child inside. My son spent many hours napping high above dad.
My only recommendation is to buy a mirror (kelty sells one) so you can see how your precious load is doing without cranking your neck around. Also, get the sunshade for those sunny days.

My 13th month old son had outgrown his front carrier, but we were looking for a practical way to still tote him around. We use the Journey almost daily for walks on our 20 acres and short hikes. I cannot wear the pack as he is too heavy for me, but my husband and my dad wear it all the time.
