Carry one tent between the four of you when you backpack with the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent. This four-person, three-season Kelty tent gives you a solid shelter in the woods without your needing to empty your savings account. With two strong poles to clip to the Grand Mesa 4 Tent, setup is easy, and with 53 square feet of floor space, the four of you will sleep comfortably. If the weather turns sketchy, the waterproof rain fly has you covered and gives you almost 20 square feet of vestibule space for your backpacks and muddy hiking boots. On a warm day, open the window and door—mesh keeps the bugs out yet it lets the gentle breeze blow through.
Bottom Line: Pack the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent for your three-season backcountry adventures with family or friends.
I went on a 6 week camping trip with this tent. It was extremely easy for me to set up which was great since it was my first time camping ever. The only things I really didn't like was if there was morning dew, it would collect under the rain fly. Also, beware if camping in the desert because some sand can get into the tent as it is mostly mesh under the rainfly. The tent did withstand 40 mph gusts and didn't break.
This tent to date has exceeded expectations. The wife, dog, and I have tested it thoroughly. The vestibule is quite handy. One fear I had was the the dogs claws would tear up the bottom, but no issues so far. Love it!
The biggest difference is that the Gunnison has two doors and two vestibules where as the Grand Mesa only has one door and one vestibule. The Gunnison also features a lighter weight pole set than the Grand Mesa. Hope this helps.

This tent worked great on our four day trip in Hell's Canyon. It's size to weight ratio was good, it was super easy to set up, and the rain fly was outstanding. We did wish there was more screen on the tent as we had some condensation on the inside from not enough ventilation, but that is a minor point. Overall, it rates high on price, weight, performance, and set up. Great tent!
I used the grand mesa 4 person tent for a week in the Wind River range in Wyoming with my family, and it held up really well. I selected this tent because of the low weight/good space for backpacking. It was easy to setup, and withstood nightly thunderstorms with hail and strong gusty winds. The material is kind of thin, but that's what makes it lighter to carry. I used a plastic sheet for my ground cloth which will help extend the life of the tent. Decent tent for the money.
I purchased this tent for a four day trip on the A.T. It is very easy to put up even in the rain. I did purchase the footprint for it as well which I would suggest to anyomne hiking or camping in rocky terrain just for added wear and tear. The tent was very quick to dry out after it rained the first night. It was a little tight for four people and their gear. One of our team members is very tall and we had to lay long ways in the tent other then that it was great.
This is a nice overall tent but could be a big problem in 2 scenarios: 1. It's raining when you want to set it up or break it down. It's wide open without the (excellent rain fly). 2. The "bathtub" floor is awful thin. I can't image it lasting too many trips until it develops holes, and, if it rains hard, the floor will probably develop a lot of condensation. If you're going to spend $ like I did, you might want to see if there is anything similar that doesn't have these potential problems.
If your not anal about the footprint being perfect. I normaly just get a tarp...i know it sounds cheesey buy when its cut to size with the edges duct taped (gorilla brand) it's just as good if not better than most foot prints ive seen. save your money and buy a decent tarp cut it to size and tape the edges so it won't fray even if it only lasts a few trips you could buy three or four tarps for the price of one footprint. I've been useing my tarpfootprint for about a year with no problems.
No, it doesn't come with a footprint (and I'm not sure that backcountry.com sells one for it). However, you can buy a footprint from other retailers (usually for $40-50).
I bought this tent for my boyfriend for Christmas. He loves it and I love it. I didn't know much about tents when I bought but all the reviews on it were positive. It's nice and big. We slepted in once but only in the living room. Can't wait to take it camping and four people would comfortably fit as well as two.
I've taken this baby for a spin in a number of Texas state parks in good weather conditions. The tent is well-made, easy to pack, and easy to build. I invited a married couple along on one trip and they brought along a blow-up mattress. I slept on a foam pad. We all fit, including my dog. Plenty of room.
I do agree with the purchase of a footprint because the bottom of the tent is a little thin. Set up is simple and straight forward. Plenty of interior room and the vestibule is perfect for keeping muddy boots out of the tent. The tent bottom being thin is the only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.
The way I like my tents -- easy and quick...I set-up this baby in 5 minutes flat, it was warm and cozy at night and solid when the wind blew. It kept me and 4 of my kids warm and comfortable. I highly recommend the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season.
