Can you fit a crash pad in it?

Can you fit a crash pad in it?

Best Answer Responded on

That is going to highly depend on the crash pad. I strongly suggest checking out the floor dimensions and comparing it against your pad. Personally I kinda like putting my whole tent on top of my crash pads. Not only do you get the cushion to sleep on but the pad serves as a footprint as well.

Responded on

That will depend on the specific crash pad, but it will fit as long as the dimensions of the pad are less than 82" x 44". A good example of a pad that would fit is the Black Diamond Mondo.

Responded on

Measure the crash pad and compare to 82" x 44". Simple enough. Though honestly, if (as Mike mentioned) a Mondo will fit, there's not a lot that won't.

Great tent for your money!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this tent at the end of the summer and have used going down 5 day Cataract Canyon when there is gust winds up to 50 mph and when camping up in City of Rocks/Castle Rocks when it was snowing and the weather was low 40's upper 30's. You can pack it smaller than the stuff sack it comes with, makes it easy to fit other gear with it. Took me maybe two minutes to set up and breaking down is easy as well. With the rainfly on it'll keep you warm even when there is frost outside.

A whole lot of tent for your money!

I've owned this tent since 2008 and have taken it camping at least a dozen times and it has not failed me yet. I've slept in it in the rain several times and have stayed bone dry inside. I've also taken it to Assateague State Park and camped right on the beach, where it was extremely windy and this little tent took it all! Temperatures dropped to upper 30's in the morning and I still felt nice and cozy inside. It is super light and easy to set up, even in the dark. I am often sitting in my chair, relaxing with a cold drink, long before all my friends are still setting up their tents. It looks small on the outside but feels a lot roomier inside. Enough space for 2 if you don't have too much gear. I love this tent! Who said backpacking tents needed to cost $200+? There is no better tent at this price!

Great little tent from Kelty

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently used this tent during a eight-day backpacking trip throughout the Isle Royale National Park. Despite a three-day rainy weather nothing got wet inside this tent. I like how easy it is to set up and it is lightweight enough. I bought it from Backcountry.com for less than the price listed because they matched Campmor sale price of $119.00.

for price good tent

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Bought it mostly for weekend trips, Have taken it backpacking once and it was not too heavy split between 2 people and still gave you everything you want out of tent. The vestibule is an awesome place for shoes and other, very nice size. endured some pretty heavy winds
would recommend.

First Impression: Grand Mesa 2!

Have not taken this tent out yet, but set it up and looked around... for the price, this looks like it is a great little tent. Check out my video to see it in action. I will post a more complete review once I take it out on the trail.

Great review! I am seriously considering buying this tent over the Salida 2. Curious- what kind of pants are you wearing in the review (brand/style)? Thanks!

Excellent weight-to-size ratio!

I got this tent primarily for a weekend backpacking trip to the Sierras. It was light, easy to pack in, and extremely easy to single-handedly set-up. The rainfly gives a nice little area to leave shoes outside, but only having one door is a drawback. Other than that, it easily fit me/sleeping pad/gear/dog, shrugged off dirt like nothing, and balanced giving an awesome view of the starry sky with providing protection from the wind. Would definitely recommend!

So far so good

Only taken this out once so far but it worked great. Lightweight, easy and fast to set up, nice sized vestibule. I haven't weighed it personally but I think with the footprint it might be less than 4lbs. I feel like that is a conservative spec on Kelty's part. Great for one person, tight fit for two but doable.

Big Bend and big wind

Big Bend and big wind

Did a 3-day trip to Big Bend on the outer loop trails. With thunderstorms left and right, the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 stood up to 50 mph gusts and some strong downpours. Stayed dry and tent managed to weather the high wind gusts with no problem at all. Although it listed as a 2-person tent it worked out perfectly for myself and my gear. It would be a tight fit for two people and the vestibule is not quite large enough to handle a multiple day or long distance load for two people. If you're looking for a good solo tent for you and your gear I highly recommend it, but it might be a tight fit for two and their gear except for a short overnighter........

easy shmeasy

I have only used the tent for a week, but I have enjoyed it. Very quick to set up. Fit 2 very large sleeping pads inside. The shape of the footprint makes it so you want to put your head by the only door, which would not be my first choice. Kept me cool (and able to see the stars) without the rain fly, and perfectly dry with it.

SWEET TENT

Great tent!! I work for a conservation corps in AZ and we do a lot of multiple days in the field so good shelter is clutch. The tent is wonderful keeps everything dry super easy set up light easy to set up and break down and great price. love kelty brand they are always reliable also love backcountry.com customer service is great! Only negative quality is one door :(

Great Tent

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I took it car camping this past weekend to try it out and loved it. It was big enough to comfortably hold me (5' 8", not petite) and my Collie-mix. It was incredibly easy to set up and break down; I was relaxing while my friends were still working on their tent. It also kept me dry when it rained, while my friends' tent leaked despite having an extra tarp attached. (I may have gloated just a bit.) I was worried that my dog's nails would damage it, but it came out without a scratch. I had a comfortable, dry, bug-free weekend.

For those who like to use air mattresses, this will fit a twin size with room for a lantern and some smaller things as well. Any larger would not fit. Also, if you are tall you will brush your head against parts of the ceiling while seated due to the added height from the mattress. Not a big deal other than causing static in your hair and making it slightly more difficult to enter/exit. I personally plan on using a pad next time.

Overall I really loved this tent and can't wait to use it again.

Quality economical two person tent.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought the Kelty Grand Mesa 2 Tent as a birthday gift for a friend and she loves it. I had the chance to check it out with her when she initially set it up. For the price it's a great little tent.

Send it.

Got this one a few months ago. Super light, durable, everything a Kelty normally is. Very simple design means while all my friends are still setting up their tents mine is assembled and I'm sipping some whiskey offering nothing but pointers on why they should really invest in a Kelty. Walked through 8 hours of rain last week, and though literally everything else was soaked, the tent was bone dry.
If I was you, I'd probably buy one.

I plan on buying this tent mainly for backpacking trips but I also plan on using it for car camping with my sons (8&4). Will this tent hold a queen airmattress (with no other gear)?

Responded on

Mitch

No this tent will not fit a queen size air mattress, if that is what you are looking to do you will need to look at a 3 person tent.

Great Tent for the Money

For the price, it is hard to beat. Vestibule is big enough to store your gear and overall weight is more than reasonable.

What is the best way to store the tent, stuffed, rolled loosely or folded loosely?

Best Answer Responded on

Once it is air dried you can store it in the stuff sack and that should be fine. I've stored them loosely in a duffle as well to prevent creasing if I know I won't be using it for a while.

Responded on

Stuff it, that is why they come in a stuff sack.
