The boy seems to like it, it has plenty of storage space, and it is surprisingly light. The carrier itself is really comfortable and has many adjustments to accommodate a variety of wearers.

I am in the process of returning a Sherpani Light. Straps above

I am in the process of returning a Sherpani Light. Straps above the leg stirrups on that carrier chaffed my child's legs. I see a strap running along the side of this carrier. Has anyone had issues with this chaffing their kid's legs (taller kids whose feet would fall below the level of this strap) ?

Brand New for 2010!

By: Backcountry.com Vendor Rep
February 2, 2010

The complete lineup of Kelty kid carriers has been updated for 2010. The aluminum frame has been anodized and still features the lock out cockpit with 5 point adjustable harness parents have come to rely on for their child's safety. We're not just claiming this, all carriers have been tested and passed by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission). The Kelty carriers are also the only carriers that feature the auto-deploy kickstand for ease of taking the pack off and setting it on the ground. Torso adjustment is now behind the lumbar pad. By having the adjustment behind the lumbar, it keeps the center of gravity low on your back if you're 5'3" or 6'3". The FC 3.0 is the most featured with a molded/padded backpanel, sun hood and diaper pad.

earlier model ('09)

By:
May 3, 2011

This is an earlier model, but it gives good perspective on size and fit. As a kid gets bigger his feet will start coming out the sides. They can stand up back there till about 12-13 months.

We ordered this one online and I am thinking that the frame it broke. Does it have a metal piece that allows it to stand up? Or does it not have that piece? Fill me in on how you load and unload the child if it does not stand on its own? Thanks

Hey,

Why is it that for the past 40 years every piece
of outdoor equipment has gotten lighter.

Except Kid Carriers, they have gotten heavier, Why?

Check out the LittleLife Freedom. 5Lbs, fits, acts like
a technical pack.

feature rich kid pack

By:
March 9, 2010

This thing is feature rich. I was kinda blown away when I first started looking at it and fiting it to my torso. It fits great, spreads weight and is very stable. The built in stand is a feature that I didn't get initially but when you're kid is snoozing, you don't want to have to pull him out of the pack to take him off your back.

I am debating between the Kelty TC 3.0 and the Kelty FC 3.0.

I am debating between the Kelty TC 3.0 and the Kelty FC 3.0. Anyone have experience with how they compare? Will the TC be comfortable for hiking or is it only good for around town? Has anyone used the FC for air travel and taken it on the plane - does it fit in the overhead compartment or do you have to gate check it? Thanks!

If you plan on using it more for hiking, I'd recommend the FC 3.0. It carries a bit better for long distance and uneven terrain. For travel and around town, the TC 3.0 is better. The TC has a little more storage and fits into the overhead compartment better than the FC. You may have to gate check the FC depending on the airline.

Is there a difference between the fc2 and fc3 besides the rain/sun hood. If not, why would you not just then by the fc2 and the rain hood and save a few bucks?

Here's the FC 2.0 backpanel. The FC 3.0 packpanel will be a tad bit more durable but both will perform great. Hope this helps.

Has anyone compared the Kelty FC 3.0 Kid Carrier (1150 cu) with the Deuter Kid Comfort III, in terms of durability, quality of materials or construction, design, fit, and/or comfort for the parent/child? They both are on the high end of the price end for kid carriers, and I'd like to hear some thoughts on which is the better product.

I got a Deuter II to replace an old Kelty (Pathfinder, straps rotted) and I am going back to Kelty, just haven't decided old or new. The Deuter is comfy for the adult but I was pregnant with #4 when I looked at the Deuter, using my then 2 1/2 yo girls as test subjects - now that baby is here and 7months I realize the cockpit of the Deuter swallows him. It's much higher up in front and the adjustablilty of the seat is a joke. Kelty will comfortably fit a much wider range of kids.

Yes, I looked at both and ended up buying the FC 3.0. They're both going to offer great support for child and are very similar in terms of making the right safe and comfortable for the little one. The main reason we opted for the Kelty is the adjustable hip belt. I was in the market for a pack that both my wife and I could use, and the Kelty's hip belt performed far better than the Deuter's adjustable shoulder straps. I'm on the shorter side (5'8") and my wife is too (5'3") and the Deuter, even when adjusted to it's shortest setting, didn't fit my wife at all and barely fit myself. The lower you adjust the shoulder straps on the Deuter the higher the pack sits. It distributed the weight way too high on my back. In comparison the hip adjustable hip belt fit allowed the bag to fit perfectly on both my wife and I, while keeping the weight distributed properly. My only beef with the Kelty is the fact that it is quite beefy...I would love it if it had the option to remove the upper storage compartment.

I am 5 feet tall (or short!) and am looking for a carrier for my now 16 mo old daughter for hikes and general activities (she's DONE with her stroller these days!) Has anyone my height used these carriers? If so, could you tell me about your experience with them? I;ve tried on a few (non-Kelty) brands in the stores, but they all seem too long for me. Any advice/comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Take a look at the Kelty TC series. They fit a shorter torso range than the FC series 11"-16" vs. 15"-18").
