For the wily backpacker.
We suggest using a pack animal to haul your load on your next multi-day backpacking trip. No, we don't mean a mule or yak, but rather the Kelty Women's Coyote Backpack. Designed to help you comfortably haul a week's worth of gear down the trail and specifically designed to work with a woman's body, the Coyote gets the job done when you have a lot of miles to cover.
While the Coyote shares most of the same features as Kelty's Redcloud pack, it sets itself apart with a new sleeping bag compartment so you can manage space more effectively. Like the Redcloud, the Coyote starts with the PerfectFIT suspension system. This suspension system offers on-body adjustment to accommodate all body types and eliminate the need for retail-assisted measurements, not to mention it allows you to carry heavy loads mile-after-mile in comfort. Adding extra support are dual Lightbeam aluminum stays and an HDPE framesheet. Hex mesh shoulder straps, an HDPE-reinforced waistbelt, and lumbar support aid in stability when crossing uneven terrain.
The Coyote features a traditional top lid access, with an additional front panel access so you can layer up or down on the trail with ease. The top lid converts to a detachable sling pack for smaller side journeys launched from base camp. Kelty integrated a zippered pocket at the top lid for electronics, zippered side pockets for snacks, a large front pocket with organization for books and layers, and a pocket at the waist belt for energy gels. This backpack also features straps to lift loads, stabilize the waist belt, secure the shoulder straps at your sternum, and compress smaller loads for a secure hike.

- Q & A
Not bad - not perfect
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Finding the right pack has been a long and winding road for me, but I finally found the right one (for the most part). This is by far the most convenient pack I've had. It has the right amount of pockets, not too many and not too few, so it doesn't feel like there is unused/wasted space. It took me a while to get this adjusted perfectly, but now that it it is adjusted right I feel like the fit is pretty great. It has good weight distribution and is comfortable on the trail while carrying as much as ~40 pounds (I haven't yet tested it with more than that). My only complaint is the fabric on the shoulder straps is pretty harsh and has cut up my shoulders pretty bad in the past. The only remedy I've found for this is to wear a tshit instead of tank tops.
If it weren't for the shoulder straps...
This backpack has a ton of space and I loved the various pockets. The grey/purple combo is really nice and it was a good length for my 5'3 frame. Unfortunately the shoulder straps are sewn very close together and pinched my neck, rubbing it very uncomfortably. On top of that the strap material is very abrasive. I ended up getting an Osprey bag that was a lot more comfortable, but unfortunately more expensive and with fewer awesome pockets.
Finally, A Bag That Fits!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I have such a difficult time with backpacking bags, usually due to my small size. This is by far the best bag I have EVER purchased. Not only is it beyond comfortable & has a snug fit (very rare for me) but it has so many pockets! I am an organizational freak, so the pockets are one of my favorite features. Highly recommend this to other small humans.
Stoked on this pack.
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Got this for my girlfriend and we just finished our first trip with it. She weighed it down with almost 40 lbs worth of stuff, but kept saying how comfortable it was. Tons of pockets to stash stuff in, and there's a waterproof barrier between the bottom 1/3 and the upper 2/3 of the pack. That really came in handy because she fell in the river up to her waist, so her clothes in the bottom of the pack got soaked, but everything else stayed dry. Highly recommend.
