Warm Bag

 • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is my second Kelty bag purchase and I'm very pleased with what I got for the price (got it on sale which made it even better). The bag is warm, light and compressible. Took it on a four day backpack in the Maroon/Snowmass wilderness and this bag kept me warm when it went down to 30 one night (I also get hot easily so perhaps this bag might not be warm for everyone). My only gripe is that the zipper gets stuck very easily which makes opening and closing the bag from the inside a little difficult and rather annoying when you're half asleep and trying to fumble with the zipper. Other than that I'm happy with the purchase.

32 Degree bag for women

 • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great bag, warm, light and compressible. Kelty really makes awesome down bags with excellent value compared to the competition.

FYI it is rated as 32 for women. In fact the bag model is the Cosmic 32, so it is a bit misleading that is called the Cosmic 20 on Backcountry.

Hi MSp,

My name is Adrian Person and I work for Kelty. I apologize for the confusion on the temp rating. We test our bags differently for women than we do for men. We use the EN system (European Norm) which is a controlled test that provides two temperature ratings, Comfort and Lower Limit. Men typically sleep well at the Lower Limit, so we name the Men's and Unisex bags accordingly. The Women's bags are given the Comfort Rating which is the temp we think you'll be truly comfortable at. (Better safe than sorry, right?) The build is the same as the men's Cosmic 20 degree, so the dual rating was applied during production. We are updating this for 2016 to alleviate any more confusion. Basically, if you're a warm sleeper, it should work down into the 20's. For most Women however, it will be comfortable down to right about freezing.

Lastly, note that all of our temp ratings assume three things: (this is the same for ALL brands who use EN ratings)
1. You'll be sleeping on an insulated pad.
2. You're wearing long underwear and socks.
3. You're wearing some sort of stocking cap.

Thanks again for the review, and apologies for the confusion.

Cheers!

Adrian Person

Why does Backcountry call this the Cosmic 20 when the manufacturer Kelty calls it the Cosmic 32. Accuracy is important folks!
