Good but not great.

I initially had high hopes for these Keens. I normally wear light hikers with more mixed materials, but I wanted to give these a try. At first they worked really well. Very little break in and pretty comfortable out of the box. During the summer months they only went on one 12 mile trip, and I used trail runners for most of the hot weather trips. Through the Fall and Winter day hikes and few camping trips, and last weekend a trip to the Smokys. Unfortunately, when I got home and started cleaning them I noticed that both boots were starting to delaminate next to the sole. One on the inside edge, one on the outside. After some thought I realized they had less than 100 miles on them, which is less than half of what my old La Sportivas lasted. I'm going to send them back and try something else. I still love my Keen Newports though.

    A solid far

These were my first purchase from Backcountry and they arrived on time and in good shape. I was happy with the price. Took them right out of the box and did 8 miles round trip with 1700 feet of elevation gain on the Ben Tyler Trail in Lost Creek Wilderness in CO. The second trip was the same trail from the other direction only the trip was 10.5 miles with 2000 ft of gain. The terrain was very rocky with some steep sections. The boot was comfortable from the first step. I tend to not pick my feet up and really need the molded over rubber toe. I like the all leather construction as I think it will hold its shape better. I day hike 225-250 miles a year.
