I have had excellent luck with Keen sandals so I thought the Austins would be the ideal light hiking boot. I found them very stiff and uncomfortable. It may not be the boots fault . I have put too many miles on my feet, too many marathons, too many traithlons and maybe too much hiking. I am now trying the Keen Finlay. Here's hoping for better results.Dealing with Backcoutry is a very pleasant experience and I have no problems with them.

Bought these shoes for an extended trip to the Dominican Republic. We'll be doing some light backpacking, and tons of walking on varied terrain. They are perfect. Water-resistant, incredible support, and great moisture-control. They look great, and feel great. This is my new go-to pair of shoes. Keen customer service and support was fantastic. Initially I ordered the Nopo boot...which upon arrival I realized was a completely inappropriate selection for where I was going (waaaaay too hot). Despite the mistake being completely my own, Backcountry.com promptly shipped me a exchange (the Austins, which I LOVE)...trusting that I would in turn ship back the Nopo boots. I was very impressed with this...that kind of customer service is few and far-between these days. When they say "no questions asked" return policy, they mean it! I will certainly buy from Backcountry.com again.

So happy with the product that I have purchased two more pairs on Keen Shoes. On my feet all day every day in the crappy north east weather these things are great!

I took only this pair of Keen Austins to Europe for a 10 day trip. They are such a great, versatile shoe. I did some light hiking in rural southern France, as well as museum touring in Paris. They handled all the situations well. With the black version, they blend in really well with dark pants for dinner. All around awesome show, really comfortable. I normally wear a 9.5 but only a 10 would fit. I would order up a half size, as the Keen website says to do. I recommend without hesitation.

The KEEN Austins are very comfort after I put in my own inserts. They're true to size for my 11 1/2 thin feet!

I bought my first pair of these five or six years ago. When the soul wore out, I bought two more, different colored pair. They are well made, cool-looking, and are without a doubt the most comfortable shoe I have owned as far back as I can remember.
Yep,they are KEEN shoes!

If you are in the market for unique, attractive and most importantly comfortable shoes look no further.
Never mind the copies being spit out by rival, big name companies that noticed this shoe company was beginning to leave their mark out there.
These are great shoes. I have multiple pairs of a variety of KEENS and these do not disappoint.
Try it, you'll like it!

Bought my first pair of Austins, loved them so much I bought a second pair and stashed them away. The first pair lasted a long time, and I still have them. I broke out the second pair when the first was pretty beat. Wore them for several weeks and one started to squeek badly, perhaps a delamination somewhere?
In any case I wrote to customer service and they NEVER replied. Clearly there is some quality issue, and it is extremely disappointing that the company doesn't even acknowledge a communication from a loyal customer. Much as I loved them I don't think I'll be buying them again. I would beware of indifferent customer service.
Hot feet

I've never owned a pair of Keen shoes, but heard rave reviews. So, when I needed a pair of adequate casual shoes to hoof it around town during a recent project these seemed a viable candidate. They are comfortable and I put a lot of miles on them in the past month. My only dig would that if you have hot feet, these shoes don't breathe very well and seem hotter than most shoes I have owned. I am a hot footed person, but these seem hotter than usual. It wouldn't prevent me from owning another pair however. Just add a nice pair of socks to the mix.
Real Happy with these

I'm on my second pair of these shoes. They are real comfortable and are a good year around shoe. They are flat that is for sure, less heel than most shoes I wear. My only real complaint about these is the laces wear out pretty quick and pulling at the top has no affect on the lower laces, you have to go through the laces like a boot to get them snug. Overall, good shoes and I probably will keep a pair in my arsenal for awhile.

Backcountry.com do not carry the Austin Pedal. Your best bet is to go on the KEEN site and order directly.

Great shoes for my work at a hospital; they do the job and and are actually good-looking. I can be on my feet all day, and they're still very comfortable. Light and durable, as well. I like the contrast leather more than I had thought I would, too. One con: they're not overly breathable.

This is my second pair in 5 years. I wear them virtually all week for work, I do handyman work and they are extremely durable, comfortable and good looking. They provide good support and great wear. I hope they keep making his design.
Pathetic Glue

I bought the Keen Austin for Keen's reputation of quality and style. At first look it is a beautiful shoe; however, I have had NO luck with their durability.
The shoe begins to delaminate just down from the toe piece and a gap starts to split open where the gap readily expands even more!
I got the shoes warrantied (took 5 weeks to get them back) and my new pair of Austin's are having the exact same problem after a month of wear.
Maybe this years glue is different from the last but this shoe is pathetic and I recommend it to nobody.

I heard about Keen from a friend years ago, but never bought them. This was my first pair and they're great. So comfy, right out of the box. No real break-in period. Seem very true to size. Unbelievable arch support and comfort. I am going to buy a second pair to have on standby. Maybe even a third in a different color. Can't say enough about these shoes.
