Kayland developed the 6001 for real-deal high-altitude mountaineering. It packed about as much technology into the 6001 as you can fit into a shoe-sized object. A simple list of ingredients should give you a pretty good idea of how serious Kayland is about this boot; KEVLAR®, eVent, Primaloft, carbon fiber, microfiber, and neoprene. Sound like a spaceship?

  • Neoprene and Schoeller KEVLAR gaiters provide durable waterproof breathable protection
  • E.C.T. carbon insole for an ultra-stiff, lightweight sole
  • Kayland Vaporlite midsole gives you lightweight support
  • Vibram Teton replaceable soles for durability and tons of traction
  • eVent waterproof breathable insert to keep your feet warm and dry
  • Primaloft synthetic insulation for warmth

Bottom Line: Kayland crams technology.

it shows the weight at 2lb 5 oz., is that for the pair or per boot? Are they compatible for crampons? I tried the plastic boots, Koflachs, and absolutely hated them! Are these on the same plan as that, with a removable liner?

How over kill are these boots for general winter mountaineering, and some ice? Biggest climb I do is Rainer, and lots of climbing in the white mountains.

No, there is no removable liner. People shouldn't answer questions when they don't actually own the item.
