Safety made easy.

The Katadyn MyBottle Microfilter may be the simplest way in the world to ensure that you are getting clean drinking water. Just fill it up and go. Because of its lightweight and hassle-free operation, it's perfect for camping, hiking, and travel. The MyBottle Microfilter uses a 0.3-micron pleated glass-fiber filter and granular activated carbon to meet EPA guidelines for removal of bacteria and protozoan cyst (like giardia), as well as reduces chemicals in water to make it taste better.

As long as you are hiking along a water source or using this in your hotel it's adequate. However if you plan on sharing it plan on filling it up after you quench your thirst. That said I think it's a better solution while traveling in areas you don't trust the water rather than hiking so that's what I use it for.

Love this bottle. While hiking in the Sierras, we were able to dip this bottle into clear mountain lakes and streams and drink without fear. It was wonderful. Love the compact design and ease of use. Would recommend and buy another!!

A great bottle for on the go situations or areas with plenty of water sources. If you're going on a longer multiple day hike, wouldn't recommend carrying just this. Can be annoying to keep stopping to refill and if there are no water sources around for awhile, it is a pain in the arse to fill up other bottles using this. Overall very satisfied with it. Has filtered some very, very nasty water with no repercussions.

The Microfilter bottle has been the perfect solution for long days on the water fly fishing. Rather than carrying a heavy Camelback or multiple bottles, simply dip the bottle into a stream or river and sip. I have found it handy to use either a coffee filter, sleeve or small pack towel to keep extra particals out of the bottle. When done for the day/week, simply fill with water and a small amount of bleach and run through and let dry. It has a handy rotating bezel under the top to keep track of use and believe they recommend changing the filter after 120 uses. Great for hiking too and/or simply keeping with you just in case. Have used in multiple streams/rivers throughout UT, ID, WY with no issues.

Picked this up because I had a gift card and thought it would be good in hiking situations. Took it on a few hikes in SD and CO and it worked so well in the running water and stagnant water. The water tasted better than any bottled water. It was nice having the cold water from the melting snow right at your fingertips. It does take some good squeezing once it gets down to the bottom of the bottle but it beats pumping.

Only put this through one trip, but this is one piece of gear that will be on every trip from here on out; when temps are above freezing and I know there are water sources.
Let me start with wow, the ability to squat by a stream and fill up my bottle is amazing. I no longer have to lug up extra water for "just in case" nor do I have to unpack my pack to get to the filter and then spend time pumping. FOR ON-THE-GO QUICK SIPS THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE WITH YOU.
This essentially works like a large straw that has a filter built in. I have read many complaints on how hard it is to get water out of the bottle, but to all of those who complain: Have you ever thought how much force you are using to hand pump water through a filter? Yes I found this to be like a little difficult to get large gulps (which I sometimes wanted) but that is a negligible con for all the pros this provides. Keep the bottle upright, give a light-hard squeeze, and suck refreshing water into your mouth.
For day hikes this fits extremely well. As you hike, fill it up. Take many sips along the way and you will never be thirsty or dehydrated. I often find myself hiking for 20 minutes while sipping water, then 20 minutes with the bottle in the pack. With the Katadyn MyBottle Microfilter Bottle I now am able to carry less weight but not sacrifice the safety of the water I am drinking. My friend has the old version which caught my attention a few years ago. With Katadyn manufacturing this version, and a purifier option, this is a top notch product. If you try to use this for supplying water while camping you will be disappointed and give a crappy review because this isn't intended for that use. If you want to reduce pack weight and have an endless supply of tasty, clean water while day hiking, I strongly recommend getting this. Yes it might be difficult to gulp water through this, but as a kid, the "crazy straws" with lots of loops/designs weren't meant for speed contests. Think of this as a "crazy straw" but one for adults that filters out all the nasties!

What's the difference between this bottle and the Karadyn Purifier Bottle??? Which one is better??

This version is just a filter to protect you from bacteria, while the purifier covers you for viruses as well. Backpacker has a brief review of it in the latest magazine(March 2011, pg 55).

I'm looking forward to getting and using one come spring, so if you get this, let me know how it goes.
