The Katadyn Guide Water Filter meets industry standards for the reduction of bacteria and Giardia from wilderness or Third World water sources leaving behind pure, great tasting water. Its high-efficiency design means more water with less effort. An ideal base camp microfilter, the smooth action pump makes it easy to fill even large water containers, especially with the included hydration pack adaptor. 36-inch long hoses make it easy to reach your container and the water source. The AnitClog Pleated Cartridge has over 140 square inches of filter surface area and is guaranteed not to clog for one year. The carbon filter-core reduces unpleasant taste and odors from your treated water.

Bottom Line: While all water filters may look similar, field performance varies dramatically. The Katadyn Guide is a great choice for easy operation in remote situations.

This thing sucks...

but not in a bad way. I used the Guide Water Filter while hiking the Pictured Rocks along Lake Superior. It performed well with no clogging issues. Then again, what filter can't perform well when sucking water out of Lake Superior. I have yet to subject the Guide Water Filter to funkier challenges but I am confident in its ability to perform well. Given its modest price, the Guide Water Filter is worth a shot.

Katadyn Guide Filter

I have not been able to use the filter yet -I hurt myself on a previous trip- but everything I have read that led to my decision to buy it was positive. To see it first hand, I was happy with the ease of use and lightweight, packable design. It is probably more suited for extended treks than for the shorter trips, but that just means that it will be more durable and will last longer. Overall I am happy with the Katadyn Guide filter. Maybe I will review it again after it has been used a few times in the backcountry.

Fast & Dependable

Can't beat the quality of a Katadyn Guide. Used it on the Appalachian Trail for over a week without a hitch. It really pumps the water so you don't have to wait long to fill your bottles. Only drawbacks are the weight...just a bit heavy and it is a little awkward to use. It is definately fast and dependable.

I owned a sweetwater. Very nice but slooooooow. The guide is the way water filters should be. FAST Easy to pump. I can kick out lots of water and not even break a sweat.

Katadyn Guide Water Filter

This is a good water filter for the price. It is lightweight, and operates smoothly. I would suggest keeping the hoses in separate plastic bags inside the nylon bag.

I originally bought this for our "hurricane box" at home, but have also used it on fishing trips and hiking.

Guide

Katadyn guide is perfect for the group of 4-6 people. I just bought one and used it in Ishi wilderness on a 3 day trip. It is fast, reliable and light. Don't forget to purchase some water purifying tablets as a backup; you don't want to find yourself out there without water.
