At 78mm underfoot, the Karhu XCD Guide sounds skinny for a telemark ski. When you realize it's not a tele ski, but a cross-country tour ski, that perspective changes pretty quickly.

This ski looks and sounds like a great ski. I have Garmont excursion boots which are said to go well with these skis. I usually ski the backcountry in New England, climbing the mountains then skiing down the hiking trails.... also trips to the west. I am looking for a ski which can handle any condition s, tele turn well and are light enough to climb and tour long distances. This seems like a great ski but I hate waxless skis. Are there any skis which are similar that take wax? Maybe a touch (5 mm) skinnnier? Thanks

There are many here which are narrower however, all that I found had a waxless base. Maybe you need a waxless for New England and perhaps a different setup for coming out west like an AT or tele setup? I know building a quiver may not be your first option but certain terrain calls for the right tools. Just a thought.

This ski is awesome! If you are touring for turns or carrying your skis long distances. Give these some serious consideration. Feather weight, floaty, great on hard pack/ frozen corn and super durable! Works well with a 3-pin and is a killer combo for dynafits. I use these cruising the forests looking for tiny shots hitting rocks and stumps, no problem. Also used them for ski descents of Everest (voile 3-pin hard wire) and K2 (dynafit). This is the only ski to have made turns down the fabled "bottleneck" on K2 (27,000ft 60degrees)

My husband uses them at small ski areas in Minnesota. He says they are fine if you don't go too fast. He really likes them as a backcountry ski.

2009-10 is my 3rd season on these skis. They are my absolute favorite for touring the mountains and forests in Colorado, putting some distance on my legs for the day and looking for turns along the way. Paired them with Voile 3-pin hardwires and Garmont Excursion boots. They are also my preferred ski for Mountain Rescue missions most of them time. If you gotta carry a load, it might as well not be on your feet!
This ski is light, responsive and sturdy.
What type of xc boot would be good with these?

i use the basic voile 3-pin and cable binding with mine, and the first season i used my old 2-buckle leather boots. those worked okay, but then i upgraded to a 2-buckle plastic boot. you will definitely want a stiff, substantial boot to drive a ski this wide, and i would recommend a lightweight plastic touring boot (garmont excursion, scarpa T3).

Yes these can be mounted AT, Tele or XC.
A lightweight AT system would be a good match for this ski. Can you say Dynafit!
