Description

Kahtoola hasn't announced any plans to make a friend sack.

Your friends and loved ones stab you in the back more often than you'd like to acknowledge. You're crampons shouldn't. The Kahtoola KTS Tote Sack is made of durable PVC-backed polyester with a breathable mesh bottom to keep your crampons safe (and you safe from your crampons) and to let your gear dry out when you aren't using it. The KTS Tote can also carry your water bottle, phone, camera, or GPS so you can use it to stay organized on the trail.

Crampon sack?

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I'm returning this item unused before I poke a hole in my backpack or rip my down jacket. If your crampons have toe spikes, this brilliant design will allow the tips to penetrate the mesh bottom. On top of that, the sack seems far too short to fit most crampons. I could see it being good for phones, cameras and GPS's but not technical crampons.

1.9 ounces and fits Crampons!!!

It's light. It's durable. All the crampon bags out there add 10 to 14 ounces to your pack. This one weighs 1.9 ounces on my scale! Kahtoola's website says this weighs 3.7 ounces, but I don't think my scale is wrong. Once cinched down, my pneumatic BD Sabretooth crampons barely fit, but all points are covered and I have not encountered a puncture. The bottom is open mesh to allow melted snow to drain, but it's made of a tough plastic type material and my frontpoints have not punctured through. 5 stars! Why? I challenge you to find a lighter crampon resistant sack out there. Toss is in your summit bag and don't get weighed down! One of my guides recommended the OR durable stuff sack as a crampon resistant bag. She used it for an entire year until she found a puncture during our trip. LOL. The OR durable sack IS tough, but the fabric on this one is BURLY.
