Kahtoola designed the FLIGHTdeck TS24 Snowshoe to give you all the advantages of a snowshoe and a crampon with the convenience of step-in bindings. With the FLIGHTdeck, Kahtoola has done away with traditional straps and buckles that can be a pain when your fingers are chilly. This new traction system fits onto your boot, which then clicks into the snowshoe deck like a ski binding.
- Convenient traction system fits hiking boots, winter boots, and running shoes, and can be used without the snowshoe deck for ice and hard snow
- Low weight for performance and efficiency
- The snowshoe deck stores flat and packs easily because the crampons are not attached

No you definitely don't need those specifically to work this system. You can use any snow boot or burly hiking shoe. I would say if you are trying to fit real Mountaineering boots I would go for a more traditional crampon.
