The K2 HellBent Ski doesn't take no for an answer. Screw work or hanging out with your gal on a powder day because this freakishly fat and fast beast wants to make sweet love to the goddess of powder. Its meaty 132mm waist and powder rocker profile enable you to bob on the surface, while a soft flex promotes buttering in ways that Buttermilk pancakes can only imagine.

  • Triaxial braided fir/aspen core gives you a strong, burly ski that rips it both on and off the trail
  • Durable TwinTech Sidewall construction helps ensure the life of the ski
  • A Powder Tip profile (raised tip and tail) enables you to scarf down massive amounts of powder, stomp landings, and gives you a "surfy" feel
  • Its Directional taper (moderately wider tip than tail) makes it ideal for skiing or landing switch
  • Tip and Tail hardware makes the HellBent compatible with HellBent skins

Bottom Line: Buttery delicious.

The short answer is no. These don't even work as a 1 ski quiver at a place like Alta.

these skis are going to be heavenly in powder, okay on groomers, and terrible on ice. obviously there are going to be plenty of people who will disagree with me and tell you that they ski their hellbents every day on ice all the time. i'm not saying you can't do that, just that the skis are not designed for that and there are better options if that's what they're going to be used for primarily. if you're looking to ski mostly powder...great choice.

Just Plain Fun

By:
October 13, 2011

I demo'd the 2012 model back in March of this year. Conditions were 4-6" of PNW pow. The first thing that jumped out at me was just how damn fun these are. They are so soft that in any type of soft snow it is impossible to not have a big smile on your face. They encourage playfulness.

Just get on them and have a good time. The only downsides are that they aren't fun on groomers (go figure) and that they are too soft if you land with your weight too far off center.

Having not skiied this years, but the 2009 version I am not sure if they are the best in tight trees/chutes. You will tend to "upsize" the ski because of the huge amount of rocker. This makes it a pretty long ski. But because of the significant rocker it is easy to pivot, just the swing weight is significant.

I don't think it would be my 1st choice for thight trees and chutes

These are great in deep powder, but in tighter conditions, like tight tree areas and chutes, they take some skill to maneuver (think having a snowboard on each foot). If you're not an expert/advanced skier, or plan on being primarily in tighter conditions, I'd maybe check out the K2 Obsethed, especially if this is your first fat ski. Normally I'm all for the "go big or go home" mantra, but since the Obsethed are a little narrower and easier to manage in the trees, yet will still rock the wide open deep pow easily, they're a great alternative to the HellBent.

Considering the 50% Rocker 50% Camber the 179 will ski like a ski you're probably more used to and the 169 will ski like a ski far too small for you. Go with the 179. Or go demo both of them to decide for yourself.

I have been reading a lot and couldn't decide between the Atomic Bentchetlers, Armada JJ's, or K2 Hellbents. Let me tell ya. . . I have skied different shaped skis like the JJ's, Bentchetlers, S7's, S3's, etc etc. . . But sometimes you just have to go back to the basic shaped skis (except the reverse camber) to get the best performance. There is a reason why the hellbents are the best. Try them out. and You'll see what I mean.

Really its all about your skiing style. The reason those other skis are shaped the way they are is so they can use rockered tip and tale with regular camber underneath. Where as the Hellbent uses little to no camber but uses a traditional parabolic style side cut. Plus these skis are made for more backcountry jibbing. Thats why the rocker is so intense. They arent made for the hard charger going down gnarly chutes and tearing up variable conditions. They are made for the powder guy who wants to throw some freestyle into it. (Notice how park skis don't have the new 5 dimensions? They still have the traditional "basic" parabolic shape.) Just like the Hellbents. So for those who are a little more playful when skiing powder. These skis are beast.

"But sometimes you just have to go back to the basic shaped skis (except the reverse camber) to get the best performance." -I'm really interested in these skis, but I can't figure out how the "basic shape" helps in powder. It seems like it would make it harder to turn than the JJs, Bents, S7s, etc. Can you explain a bit?

I'm 5'6 / 140lbs and ski in vail/steamboat most weekends. Looking for a fun powder ski for this year - does anyone have an opinion on whether 169 or 179 would be better?

you might have more control over the 169 and the lighter weight might make it more fun. The 179 will give you more stability but is not really necessary. You will be able to handle both sizes fine but Its really easier to have fun on a shorter ski.

If I were you I'd take the 179 (following the +10cm rule that usually works the best), then again it's all depending on what you expect from the ski to do and how to act and on what your skill level is. If really just for a fun ride, then 169 will do but if for serious powder, take the 179.

Does the 09-10 model with 122 waist have a noticeable amount

Does the 09-10 model with 122 waist have a noticeable amount of float over last years obsethed? I own the obsethed and am looking for a super floaty ski, as my powder only ski. The obsethed works very well for almost everything, but felt as though I wanted the surfiest of skis for a major pow day. The reason I'm looking at the older model is it's about half the price of the newer. Any thoughts?

Its a floatier ski but the float difference will not be as great between the old hellbent and the new. But i still would reccomend buying the old. In my experience a 122 waist ski is muck funner than a 130 waist ski in powder. The hellbent will give you a different powder experiece than the obsethed will. The hellbent is a much poppier play-fuller ski And since the bents have more tail rocker and a softer flex, they will give you a much more surfy, playful feeling than the obsethed. The extra money spent on buying the new bents really isn't worth it.

I just bought that same model. From what I have heard that model is way floaty. Full rocker underneath you. And at 122 waist and full rocker. There is no way anything is floatier.
