With a mid-fat width, powerful metal laminate construction, and slightly rockered tip, the K2 Hardside Alpine Ski holds its own in powder and lays the smackdown on crud and thick snow. This is the ski for those who seek out bottomless days as often as possible but who often get stuck dicing through chunder grits. Cruise when it’s soft and easy—then turn into a showoff when conditions get difficult.

  • Backcountry-friendly features include tip and tail holes for easy K2 skin attachment, flat tails, and tail notches to secure any type of skin clip
  • Hybritech Construction with Titanium laminate blends the performance of sidewall, the give of cap construction, and powerful precision
  • Aspen and Paulownia blended wood core weighs very little but is still durable and responsive
  • Powder-specific tip design means the ski contacts the snow at the widest tip point, which keeps tips stable in variable conditions
  • Progressive sidecut allows for aggressive turn initiation and easy tail release
  • Gradual rockered tip sails in the soft snow

Bottom Line: This is no fair-weather backcountry ski. It’s an all-condition snow-slaying machine.

I haven't skied a sub 100mm waist in a few years let alone a straight tail. I found these skis to be a good driver. The metal gives the ski a damp feel at speed through the rough stuff. Primarily used for touring on firmer and lesser powder conditions. Tips and tails equipped with removable k2 bolts to use k2 specific pre cut skins, or to make you skis into a sled for rescue. Great ski for the quiver. Even though its narrower, perhaps a bit heavier than the Coomback, its a great touring tool.

How will this ski do with quick turns and bumps?

i demod the ski in 181 for two days and it does fine in bumps, easier than the 184 mantras i have. I bought a pair for resort use on non powder days, and I ski squaw where bumps are a fact of life

This is not a ski for the bumps. If you prefer to ride it on the front side, expect to do some fairly long turns.

I have just started to ski the 174 Hardside with Dynafits and am really liking them. Versatile. Good on the steeps, vertical sidewall and fairly stiff. Good in the crud and pow with a 98mm waist and a slight rocker that doesn't flap around at speed. Truly a do everything ski and not that heavy.

the kids in Chainpur couldn't stop talking about how quick the hardsides were edge to edge and how well the rocker plowed through the crud, they would know!

I really enjoy these skis

I found these this year for a steal, 300 bucks with the mounting. I put some new 22 design axles on these and they crush crud. Powder was awesome too. I busted my leg though and was only able to get about 8 days up on these, but I can't wait for next year.
