Extreme Alpine Ski

K2 built the Extreme Alpine Ski around a triaxial-braided fir core with tough ABSorb Hybrid sidewalls and borrowed a killer topsheet from the late ’80s icon. Done and done—the included sprinkles of radical-ness (you add them to your breakfast) will boost you into higher spread-eagles than you ever thought possible.

  • Directional twin tip design blazes in backwards mode and spins through modern and old school moves
  • A burly fir core lets you stomp the hardest landings and abuse your planks in the park—without missing a beat on the rebound
  • Torsion box construction braids fiberglass around the wood core for torsional rigidity and resonsiveness
  • Stealth Black Rivets look cooler than a backscratch in a neon one-piece, plus they reinforce the tips
  • This ski was born to bring sexy back to the terrain park, but it also holds its own in variable and soft conditions

Bottom Line: The only thing they’re missing is a 210mm length…. Let’s hope for next year.

I would consider myself a little better than intermediate, but not an expert, and I do pretty much all mountain and looking to get good at park rides. I go to Colorado about 2 weeks a year and is trying to decide if these skis are right for me and what size. I am 6'0" about 205 lbs. thanks

Ski-the-Edge

First, these are not a 'carving' ski, so ski instructor types won't like them. I would look at their cousin skiis (same company) Volkl for carving skiis.
I work on mountain and these are my 'every day' skiis. I think they would not be good on ice, but I work @ Telluride, out West where ice does not exist. They are terriffic 'all mountain' skiis. They initiate turns with very little input. They have the widest 'sweet spot' of anything I've tried. They are very, very forgiving. They are superb in the bumps; they are so quick you can easily 'double turn' in the bumps. On groomers they shave speed with little effort, but they just don't have the desire to carve like one of my other pairs. Also, even though they do not chatter at speed, they are not as fast as my carving or powder skiis; probably because of the hard base that won't hold wax.
What they excel at is Gnar. The bases are so hard that you don't need to and in fact are wasting time to wax; it just comes off after one run. So you can ski rocks with abandon. Also the edges are very thick and won't blow out. The quick turning is a real asset in couloirs. and the forgiving nature means you won't take a fall where it might be terminal to do so. The wood construction means they will take a beating in the gnar day after day.
For those into appearance, the tops scratch rather easily because they are made of rubber.
You can ski powder with these; they are much better than the old style skiis, but not nearly as good as a dedicated powder ski. Still, when I'm going to spend all day on the mountain working, I wear these because they are better than most anything on most everything. I'm much less tired at the end of the day because these skiis are so easy on me.

Alright so I'm looking to spend a good amount of time in

Alright so I'm looking to spend a good amount of time in moguls, in the trees and wanting to do a lot of hike to terrain this winter. are these a good ski to do that with. I have another old school ski that will only do groomers and only groomers so I'm not to worried about these skis needing to fill that niche. I'm also wondering on what size I should get. I'm 5' 10" or 5'11" but right now I only weigh 145 but I'm going to try and gain at least ten pounds by january ( 5 months from now) what size should I get? I am an agressive skier. I ski all blacks and double blacks. I was thinking the 169's

These skis are k2s all-around twin tips, they were really designed with everybody in mind, and can take a beating. because of this, you should look to them as more of an all mountain ski. they'll do great on groomers probably moguls, but I wouldn't buy this to be your ski for hikes or powder runs, as the dimensions are not very good for that. 174 might be the best for you with your height, but at 145pounds 169 should do fine, especially because its the only size left

I use them as all-mountain skis here in Michigan and out west - not as park skis (they really are too heavy for the park). With the proper side edge bevel (1 degree), these skis work great even on frozen crud and ice. I have some great Volkl carving skis- these don't have quite as much edge hold as the Volkls, but they are way more forgiving skis.

Yeah these skis were definitely not made for Eastern hardpack. They'll slide out on ice if pushed at all. Super fun in variable CO terrain. You can play in the bumps, the crud and the groomers. They are fine, not great, in deep stuff. Have to get in the backseat a bit to keep the tips floating. Definitely a worthy Western ski if your quiver already has some fatties.

Great all mountain ski

By:

this ski is great for everything all over the mountain. its a bit heavy and the flex is pretty stiff . great for jumps and a little narrow for powder but it still performs well.

I think although you consider yourself an intermediate skier, which i believe you are, it varies between the different types of snow. For example, I've used these skis in the past here on the western slopes with good edging, but when i try them out in a eastern slope, i lose my edge constantly. So depending where you are, I think you can know if you want these or not.
