K2's versatile Apache Xplorer Ski goes from slaying backcountry powder to laying down arcs on groomers without missing a beat. The 84-millimeter waist and generous progressive sidecut does well in hard and soft snow. K2's secondary elastomeric core and MOD Monic technology dampen vibrations for a smooth, stable ride. The Marker MX 14.0 Binding has a wide contact area with the ski to efficiently deliver power to the edges for max performance.

Bottom Line: Rip the whole mountain.

I am an advanced skier who skis about 60% of the Winter on east

I am an advanced skier who skis about 60% of the Winter on east coast hard pack/groomers. However the remainder of the time I am in Utah Powder and I am looking for a ski good for east coast but also handles very well in powder. Is this my best option in a K2 ski? Please advise.

I skied on a pair of Outlaws for the first half of the season and switched to the Xplorer for the second half. Both perform excellently in the powder, but the Xplorer is slightly more responsive on hardpacked and considerably more nimble in the bumps. I'm grateful for the switch.

The Apache Outlaw would be a better option if you plan on spending 40% of your time in Utah. It has slightly larger dimensions to better handle powder, but will still tackle the hardpack and groomers out East as well as the Xplorer.
