Sunny day? Click into the K2 Apache Crossfire Ski w/ Marker Mx 12.0 Binding and lay down tighter, faster, more aggressive turns inbounds. K2 added 4mm of width underfoot to this year’s Crossfire to give it float and stability when the snow’s soft, but it remains at the core a corduroy speedster that eats hardpack like a hungry beast.

  • Metal laminate ABS sidewall construction incorporates resilient titanium sheets and specializes in arcing turns on firm terrain
  • Fir and aspen wood core blends strength with liveliness
  • MOD Monic Technology places a vibration dampener in the tip of the ski to smooth your ride
  • A wide Marker MX Binding extends across the entire ski for efficient power transmission to the edges
  • Shapely sidecut gives this ski a chassis born for tight turns
  • Triaxial fiberglass braiding around the core lends extra torsional rigidity and responsiveness

Bottom Line: A sleek all-mountain weapon.

I am torn between this ski and the perfect one from head. The head ski has incredible good reviews. I am advanced/ expert skier. I love carving groomers and occasional fresh powder. I grew up skiing in new England but now live. And ski Oregon and California. Any insight and advice about these two skis would be greatly appreciated.

The following is taken off the K2 site, I take no real credit for it other than finding it for you.

MOD MONIC
The Monic is a solid zinc mass embedded in the secondary core so it works in conjunction with the MOD structure to focus mass dampening at a targeted location. Independent studies at Boeing Test Laboratories helped pinpoint a precise location where “focused” mass dampening would reduce harmonic vibration to further dampen and quiet the ski. The MOD Monic dampens at a precise location where the overall MOD structure dampens the entire length of the ski. The addition of MOD Monic enables the overall MOD structure to be lightened, reducing the weight while still optimizing the dampening characteristics of the ski. The men's Apache and women's T:Nine series feature two different MOD monic varations. The women's MOD monic and men's MOD monic consistently target mass dampening, but slightly differently. The Apache specific and women's specific tech sections provide further details.

K2 Crossfire - 2008 version

By:

These are pretty good corduroy cutters. If you are looking for a ski to ride the whole mountain this probably isn't it. This ski is best suited for high speed groomers. I have found them to work pretty well in the bumps as well once everything gets packed down. Taking this ski into the deep stuff will give you trouble because of its 74 mm midsection. On groomers at really high speed I have noticed some front end chatter that I hope they have fixed with this years edition. Also, on mine, the mounting system doesn't feel as solid as I'd like it. There is a little play between the binding and the ski which is probably nearly unavoidable for a ski with an integrated binding - i certainly won't but another ski that comes with an integrated binding system.

Bottom line, these skis are blazing fast on groomed runs, but if you looking to do anything else, there is probably a better ski out there.
